Eccord Systems Announces Second-Generation Service Level Management System: Eccord Enterprise

Solution Provides Service Level Intelligence and Management System Adaptors

for Views Into Critical Service Delivery Components

Apr 02, 2001, 01:00 ET from Eccord Systems

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Eccord Systems, the pioneer of
service level intelligence systems, announced today the availability of its
second-generation service level management solution, Eccord Enterprise. The
solution is a cross-platform, real-time and historical analysis system that
supports the most popular management systems, including HP OpenView, Aprisma
Spectrum, and BMC Patrol, and contains a generic adaptor for connection with
other service management applications. The resulting intelligence on both
external and internal services is provided with the clearest, most complete
 service view available.
Eccord Enterprise, which serves as a foundation for companies looking to
implement advanced service level intelligence, provides a unique look at
system components from an end-user service perspective. Rather than the
traditional organizational view of service level management that maps devices
to organizations, Eccord's approach maps service to organizations, allowing a
more relevant analysis of the end result of device failure or service
degradation. The solution delivers unique features to quantify resources spent
on underlying infrastructure versus service delivered, and automatically
calculates the financial impact of individual service failure on the business.
Eccord Enterprise also delivers executive reporting accessible from any web
browser for Java-enabled, real-time service views and historical reports.
"We are witnessing strong demand and interest among our prospects in the
comprehensive and compatible nature of Eccord Enterprise," said Tom Slykhouse,
President & CEO of Eccord Systems. "The versatility of the system in
extracting information from existing investments in such management systems as
HP OpenView, coupled with the executive-level service reports on real time
activity are unprecedented in the industry."
"Eccord's approach of delivering what service provider executives need to
know in terms they can understand should go far in addressing the real issues
with service level agreements today," said Daryl Schoolar, industry analyst
for ISP Strategies at Cahners In-Stat. "The service level intelligence
concept has some real merit in focusing on what the user of a service cares
 about, and that's performance."

Architecture to span existing management domains:
Eccord Enterprise is compatible with existing installations of popular
management tools via adaptors for HP OpenView, Aprisma Spectrum and BMC
Patrol. Additionally through the Open "Generic Platform Adapter" (GPA), Eccord
Enterprise is extensible to include information from additional sources,
including customer specific management systems. This ability for Eccord
Enterprise to integrate with and capture data from multiple management domains
allows companies to leverage significant investments in existing management
systems to view key service level data.

     Organization wide reporting:
The new version incorporates a complete redesign of the web reporting
system, with six compelling new reports including Service Health,
Root Cause Analysis, Impact Analysis, Quality of Service, Service Predictor,
and Outage Cost reports. In the first generation, Eccord for HPOV reports and
views were almost entirely available only in the HPOV user interface. With
Eccord Enterprise, reports are available throughout an organization via a
 generic web browser.
Eccord Enterprise also includes a new access management capability that
enables organizations to identify which users can access reports regarding
which services. This capability allows companies to restrict sensitive service
information to authorized users. Service providers can provide their customers
with secure access to their specific reports using this capability.

     Real time service status:
One of the issues facing large service providers is change management.
Eccord Enterprise incorporates a new Change Management view that automatically
identifies changes in the IT infrastructure that need to be included in the
 service definitions.

     Scalable architecture:
With this release of Eccord Enterprise, organizations are able to create a
global hierarchy of service level management systems by interconnecting
multiple Eccord implementations over the wide area. This enables both local
service level management and centralized service level management to co-exist
 within very large, distributed organizations.
Eccord Enterprise is available immediately and is targeted for xSP service
providers (ISPs, ASPs, MSPs, etc.) and enterprises.
