EdgeMatrix and Red Flag Ride the Linux Platform to Capture the Wireless Multichannel Market in China

Jul 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from EdgeMatrix

SINGAPORE, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- EdgeMatrix, the multichannel commerce
and communications infrastructure company, and Red Flag Software, China's
leading Linux software developer, today announced the formation of a
partnership to jointly market a communications solution for wireless and
 multichannel infrastructure.
With the agreement, EdgeMatrix will bundle five non-commercial user
licenses of Xgate with Red Flag's Linux workgroup servers, and will be Red
Flag's only wireless partner. Within China, both companies are committed to
quickly roll out the joint solution to the government, military and enterprise
sectors; for instance banks and security houses. The roll out for the rest of
the Asia Pacific region will be through a series of collaborative marketing
programs. Both companies will also provide product support and training.
Xgate is an advanced multichannel communications gateway server which
enables mobile services to be accessed by existing access points such as
mobile WAP handsets, Web browsers, and public kiosk stations. Other channels
would include WAP, the World Wide Web, SMS, STK and Instant Messaging
protocols. Xgate is also GPRS and 3G ready, and will support communications
to emerging channels like interactive TV set-top boxes and voice-enabled
 automobile systems.
Red Flag Linux sets the standard for open system software for the Chinese
language interface. It runs on the Intel platform, which is a leading open
standard architecture. The main benefit of this joint solution is that Linux
developers are able to jumpstart the development of their multichannel
applications for the Chinese market, using a proven multichannel
 communications gateway, Xgate.
Since its launch last year, Xgate has been successfully deployed in many
first-mover multichannel projects globally. Xgate was deployed in the first
WAP stock trading network in China last August involving over a hundred
securities trading houses; and in the first SMS marketing campaign created in
Australia for the Australian Tennis Open 2001 and the Heineken Classics Golf
Tournament, both held earlier this year. Bank of America also uses Xgate as
the communications product for their mobile banking service in Hong Kong.
Mr. Liu Bo, CEO of Red Flag, said: "Linux's reliability, scalability and
ease-of-development makes it an ideal platform for multichannel development.
Coupled with EdgeMatrix's proven Xgate, I am confident that we have the
leading multichannel server platform for the government, military and
enterprise sectors in China, and eventually for the Asia Pacific region to
develop new services through WAP, SMS and other emerging communications
 channels."
Mr. Jon Lee, General Manager of EdgeMatrix Hong Kong, said: "With a
potential of 142 million cellular subscribers by 2002, China is a important
market for EdgeMatrix's multichannel technologies. The agreement underscores
a committed partnership and the bundle will yield a server solution for the
Chinese market to develop multichannel services."
Last year, EdgeMatrix and Sun Wah Linux, which is Red Flag's exclusive
distributor in Hong Kong, had an agreement where Xgate was bundled with Red
 Flag's Linux.
