EDS and Fortress Technologies Announce Cyber Security Alliance

Companies to Market Consulting Offerings That Simplify High Security Virtual

Private Networking (VPN)

VPN Market Expected to Reach $40 Billion By 2004

Apr 04, 2001, 01:00 ET from Electronic Data Systems Corporation and Fortress Technologies, Inc.

    CHICAGO, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- COMDEX CHICAGO 2001 -- EDS (NYSE: EDS)
and Fortress Technologies, Inc. today announced an agreement for EDS to market
a set of consulting service offerings enabling companies to securely
communicate and share sensitive information between locations through
Fortress' Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology.
A VPN provides the security of a local (private) network, while enabling
global communication among branch offices, remote workers, telecommuters,
business partners, suppliers and customers. It also provides access to
information and confidential data located outside an organization's core IT
infrastructure. The worldwide VPN market is expected to reach $39.8 billion
by 2004, according to Infonetics Research.
"As the leading provider of Information Assurance services, EDS
continually evaluates advanced technologies to add 'best of breed' allies that
can enhance our existing portfolio of VPN solutions," said Shakil Kidwai, vice
president, EDS Global Information Assurance Services. "As an integral part of
the security solutions provided by EDS, Fortress Technologies' products permit
us to offer cost-effective, client-managed security solutions to meet our
 clients' unique security requirements."
When using Fortress VPNs in a secure business consulting engagement, the
EDS offerings will incorporate three advanced technologies from Fortress that
make VPNs easier to use without compromising security:
-- Automatic Tunnel Administration (ATA), which automatically configures,
        maintains and updates secure communication endpoints;
-- AutoIPSec, which minimizes the number of actions needed to establish
IPSec tunnels for transmitting encrypted data; and
-- Secure Packet Shield (SPS), Fortress' patented security protocol, which
works in conjunction with the IPSec industry standard protocol to
provide customers with the option to use two security protocols
        throughout their networks.

"Fortress is particularly excited about this agreement because EDS is a
recognized global leader in providing e-business and information technology
services," said Shawn R. Hughes, chief executive officer for Fortress
Technologies. "With our advanced VPN security solutions, EDS' clients will
now be able to deploy highly secure solutions in a rapid and cost-efficient
fashion, while at the same time minimizing support costs."
Fortress has successfully deployed standard VPN solutions and wireless
security throughout the U.S. Army and Navy, and has received FIPS 140-1
Certification from the National Institute of Standards & Technology and the
Security-Proof-of-Concept-Keystone (SPOCK) from the Department of Defense.
