    PLANO, Texas, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- In a record-setting 59 days, EDS
(NYSE: EDS) helped Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a
$5.5 billion worldwide gases and chemical company, deploy a Web-based,
e-procurement system with several key suppliers, enabling Air Products to earn
a rapid return on its investment.
EDS was able to install and host an Ariba Buyer 7.0 system for Air
Products within 59 days due primarily to its long-term relationship with Ariba
and expertise with Ariba's e-procurement systems. EDS will also provide Air
Products with supplier adoption services and provide integration to Air
Products' existing P-card infrastructure. Initially, the EDS/Air Products
team has targeted the integration of 30 major suppliers into the new
e-procurement system over the next several months. EDS will also provide Air
Products with various production support services such as database and systems
administration, help desk services and training.
In addition, EDS' Application Hosting Services is hosting Air Products'
Ariba Buyer e-procurement system in addition to linking the company into A.T.
Kearney's Leveraged Sourcing Network that provides rapid access to cost-
 effective, consortia-based supplier pricing structures.
"Our objectives were simple. We wanted to provide our customers with the
most cost-effective products and service that we could and to do that we knew
we had to improve our processes with our suppliers. That led us to
e-procurement, Ariba and EDS," said Tom Flynn, IT manager at Air Products.
"By working with EDS and using its hosted Ariba solution as well as the
supplier consortia capabilities of A.T. Kearney, we were able to upgrade our
supply-side relationships and processes faster than we could have done
 ourselves."
Market research firms project the growth of B2B e-commerce will remain
strong. According to AMR Research, businesses will spend approximately
 $5.7 trillion through B2B e-commerce transactions by 2004.
"Over the last several years we have become quite adept at implementing
e-procurement systems and, specifically, Ariba systems. With our ASP hosted
model, we can be extremely efficient and bring new Ariba clients online very
quickly," said Robb Rasmussen, vice president of EDS E.solutions's Digital
Value Chain practice. "We are effectively serving the needs of Air Products
by combining our ASP hosting and Ariba skills with the benefits of low-cost
supplier pricing through A.T. Kearney's net market consortia. The fact that
A.T. Kearney is EDS' high-value management consulting firm allows us to
seamlessly provide this combination of services."
