Educational Commitment in Israel/Palestine at Mar Elias High School
PLAINSBORO, N.J., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- F.I.S.H. Foundation, Inc., Plainsboro, NJ, is proud to announce our 2010 Clinton Global Initiative Commitment, "Mar Elias H.S. Technology Upgrade, Israel/Palestine," which has been chosen to be recognized during the Sixth Annual Meeting of CGI in New York City as one of a select number of education projects highlighted on stage with President Clinton. The recognition will occur during the Thursday morning Plenary on September 23rd, where the Rev. Dr. Kathy J. Nelson, president, will represent her foundation.
The F.I.S.H. Foundation, Inc.'s commitment is to provide academic and research technology for the biotechnology, physics, and computer labs of Mar Elias High School in Ibillin, Israel. In 1982, Father Elias Chacour founded Mar Elias High School in Ibillin, Israel, to provide this Arab village and surrounding area with an alternative to low-performing schools. With 1,200 students now enrolled from all over northern Israel, Mar Elias High School consistently scores well above even Jewish schools' averages on Israel's matriculation exams, placing it among the best of all Israeli schools.
Mar Elias High School emphasizes the values of nonviolence and mutual respect and understanding across religious boundaries. Because the students and faculty include Muslims, Christians, Jews, and Druze, Mar Elias graduates are well equipped to be peace-builders in their communities and in the larger Israeli society. The F.I.S.H. Foundation, Inc., is delighted to help its partner charity, Pilgrims of Ibillin, the U.S. based 501c3 (non-profit) for Mar Elias High School, work toward building "Peace on Desktops."
