Electric Rain Announces Swift 3D LW Plug-In for NewTek's LightWave 3D

New Plug-In Will Give Mac and PC Users the Ability to Create High-End 3D

Content and Export Directly to the Macromedia(R) Flash(TM) (SWF) File Format

Apr 10, 2001, 01:00 ET from Electric Rain, Inc.

BOULDER, Colo., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Electric Rain, Inc.(R)
announced the development of a plug-in version of their industry-leading Swift
3D product that will allow LightWave 3D(TM) users to export content directly
to the Macromedia Flash (SWF) file format, as well as other types of vector-
based formats including SVG (scalable vector graphics). This announcement
comes in the wake of their recent Swift 3D MAX Plug-in announcement at the
 flashforward2001 conference last February.
LightWave 3D by NewTek(R) is an industry leader in high-end 3D modeling
and animation, and is one of the few applications running on the Macintosh
operating system providing a 3D solution. Swift 3D LightWave Plug-in will
support both PC and Macintosh platforms, and will accurately render complex
models as vector outlines, 1-4 color shaded cartoon files, and realistic
 gradient shaded files.
"After releasing our Swift 3D standalone tool on both the Windows and
Macintosh platforms, we set our sights on satisfying the high-end 3D design
community," commented Dan Maginot, Director of Plug-in Marketing at Electric
Rain, Inc. "LightWave is a well-respected 3D application in both the Mac and
PC communities, and Electric Rain has been flooded with requests from
LightWave users to create this plug-in. With the incredible speed and
rendering enhancements that our RAViX II technology provides, it was the next
logical step in answering the demand".
The Swift 3D LightWave Plug-in is built around Electric Rain's
revolutionary vector rendering technology, RAViX(TM) II, which converts
3D models and animations into vector-based gradient shaded 2D images in the
SWF, AI, EPS and SVG file formats. The newest version of RAViX that powers
the Swift 3D LightWave Plug-in touts significant improvements in both
rendering speed, export options, and file size over the first generation
 RAViX.
"NewTek is excited to see technologies like RAViX II evolving," said Brad
Peebler, Vice President of 3D Graphics for NewTek. "One of LightWave's
strengths is its ability to cater to individual 3D design needs through a
comprehensive suite of third party plug-ins. The Swift 3D LightWave Plug-in
will significantly extend LightWave's power with the ability to export to the
SWF, AI, EPS and SVG file formats. Now LightWave users who want to publish 3D
scenes or animations to the Web or to print will have a quick and easy
solution that's both bandwidth-friendly and scalable."
"This is an exciting time for our company," commented Mike Soucie,
President of Electric Rain, Inc. "With the development of RAViX II and
synergies between companies like Electric Rain and NewTek, we expect to see
tremendous growth in the use of 3D on the Web. The Flash file format has
created a powerful vehicle for delivering 3D content, and we're intent on
creating applications that allow designers the freedom of multi-channel
 publishing."
Electric Rain expects to release the Swift 3D LightWave Plug-in late
spring 2001. A price has not yet been determined. Information on the Swift
3D LightWave Plug-In and RAViX II rendering technology can be found at
