Empirix Advances Voice Quality Testing to Carrier-Class Levels and Beyond

Hammer Voice Quality Server Offers Unlimited Scalability.

Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from Empirix Inc.

WILMINGTON, Mass., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Empirix Inc., the innovative
provider of test and monitoring solutions for voice, data and Web
applications, today announced the Hammer Voice Quality Server(TM) (VQS), a
product that combines hardware and software components to enable voice quality
testing at DS3 density levels and higher. Using industry-standard algorithms,
the new VQS system handles the computation-intensive task of voice quality
scoring. Any VoIP-enabled Hammer Test System can transparently offload voice
prompts to one or more VQS systems for easy test setup and quick results.
"Until now, most of our customers building next generation devices have
been using SledgeHammers for performance testing on thousands of channels and
smaller Hammers for assessing voice quality," said Marketing Manager Rick
Phillips. "However, the importance of ensuring superior Quality of Experience
under real-world conditions has created a need to test voice quality at ever
higher densities. The VQS was designed specifically to meet that need."
The Voice Quality Server comprises server software and a rack-mounted 2U
dual 850 MHz PIII processor PC. It can be monitored and controlled from any
PC via a web browser and readily integrates into a multi-system Hammer
environment. Multiple VQS systems can be used in concert to achieve virtually
 unlimited scalability.
Additionally, the VQS is a shareable resource that can be accessed by
multiple Hammer systems within a single lab.
The Hammer VoIP Test System(TM) using the VQS supports a variety of
scoring algorithms including PSQM, PSQM+, PAMS and MOS-correlation. According
to Phillips, "We also see new scoring algorithms coming down the pipeline in
the future, and our server architecture makes algorithm upgrades easy and
 straightforward."
The Hammer Voice Quality Server is available immediately and has already
 shipped to several customers.
