Enition Gains Traction Through Agreements With Kabira, Xacct and Portal

Gathering Important Allies in IP Billing Arena, Enition Prepares for First

Commercial Release of IP-Centric Monetization Solution

Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from Enition, Inc.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Enition(TM), Inc., the
company that provides a unique IP-level technology for monetizing digital
resources on the Internet, has affirmed its strong position in the Internet
business infrastructure arena by teaming up with key players
Xacct Technologies, Portal Software and Kabira Technologies and with the IP
 billing industry standards association, IPDR.org.
"These affiliations ensure that Enition's proprietary monetization
solution will cooperate with widespread billing and mediation software and
standards," said Jean-Luc Leleu, President and CEO of Enition. "Together, we
can offer compelling packages to ISPs, wireless carriers and telecoms, who are
searching for software that meets all their current mediation and billing
needs and adds the ability to track and bill for digital content use."
Rather than a billing application, Enition's solution is an underlying
infrastructure technology that precisely measures digital usage in terms of
time and volume. Enition uses a patented "Token" insertion process to
automatically generate Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDRs) -- itemized
transaction records similar to the call detail records used to create
 telephone bills.
Enition's solution inserts and extracts digital "Tokens" directly into the
flow of data on the network. This automatically generates a time and volume
based record of how much digital content was accessed -- without impacting the
end-user or delivery time. By generating identical, aggregated session
records for the appropriate content and service providers, Enition's software
facilitates settlement and reconciliation in a virtually infinite number of
multilateral partnerships -- something that is not feasible with current log
 file analysis procedures.
Because the software functions at the IP level, it works with any IP-based
protocol (including WAP and VoIP) and feeds directly into intelligence,
 mediation, billing and QoS applications.

     Kabira
Enition is working in tandem with Kabira on the ObjectSwitch product suite
to enable network operators to easily deploy content-based billing solutions.
ObjectSwitch solutions include OSS integration, activation, billing mediation,
session management and process flow automation delivered on GSM, GPRS, UMTS
 and broadband networks.

     Xacct
As an Associate Member of the XACCTready Alliance program, Enition is part
is part of a growing network of providers with plug-and-play interoperability
between members' solutions and the XACCT platform. The XACCT Network to
Business (N2B) platform provides a real-time link between the network and the
business. It is the first and only carrier-class network business
infrastructure platform that combines highly granular data collection,
policy-based data synthesis, and automated service provisioning on a single
platform. This comprehensive solution empowers Network Service Providers to
gain a complete understanding of how their network is being used and leverage
that information to generate revenue. In combination with the XACCT platform,
Enition is able to provide detailed customer usage information through a
comprehensive carrier class system that provides the capability to monetize
all types of digital content across a broad range of service providers.

     Portal Software
Enition has a commercial and technology agreement with Portal Software, a
leading provider of business infrastructure software for next generation
communication services. Enition has developed an integrated solution with
Portal Software's customer management and billing platform Infranet(R), to
enable the collection of highly granular information about customer usage
activity. It will also facilitate reconciliation and settlement between
digital content providers and the growing number of service providers aiming
to attract and retain customers with premium third-party content.

     IPDR
The Internet Protocol Detail Record (IPDR) standards effort defines the
essential elements of data exchange between network elements, operation
support systems and business support systems. IPDR.org is a collaborative
effort made up of Service Providers, Equipment Vendors, System Integrators,
Billing and Mediation Vendors. The primary goal is to define an open,
extensible, flexible record that encapsulates the essential parameters for any
IP transaction. IPDR is supported by over 120 leading vendors of IP services
 and systems.

     About Enition Technology
NetToll(TM) is a secure, scalable, network-based technology for enabling
the sale of content among business partners. It inserts and extracts special
data "Tokens" within the IP layer of communications between content providers
and service providers. NetToll allows the use of existing equipment at the
edge of the network -- closest to the customer -- such as caching engines,
routers and switches, to generate time, volume, or access-based measurements
of how much content has been used. This information can be easily fed into
existing billing systems at service providers such as ISPs, cable TV companies
 and cellular telephone companies.

     About Enition
Enition was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Issy-Les-Moulineaux,
France, with offices in Mountain View, California. First-round investors
include Cisco Systems, Reuters Venture Fund, and Galileo Partners. The
