Epoch Partners Previews Earnings for the Wireless Data Industry

Note Highlights Upcoming Earnings Announcements for Handspring (Nasdaq: HAND),

Aether Systems (Nasdaq: AETH), InfoSpace (Nasdaq: INSP), Openwave Systems

(Nasdaq: OPWV), and Vicinity (Nasdaq: VCNT)

Apr 10, 2001, 01:00 ET from Epoch Partners, Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Epoch Partners today issued a
Research Note on the earnings outlook for Wireless Data companies. The
Research Note, issued by Matthew Adams, Analyst, Wireless Data, highlights
 four main points for investors:

-- Our wireless data companies were hit hard during the first quarter of
this year, falling an average of 62% compared to the NASDAQ decline of
25%. Some of the stocks are primed for recovery, but seasonally slow
first quarter earnings results may not be the catalysts.
-- Amid the economic slowdown, sequential revenue growth among our five
companies is estimated to be down 3%. Hitting these numbers may be
less of a challenge than convincing investors that better times are
        ahead for business fundamentals.
-- Aether, Openwave, and Handspring should all meet their March numbers,
but we are not expecting measurable upside in light of the slowing
economy and seasonal slowdown in the device sector.
-- InfoSpace and Vicinity remain in "show-me" mode. These companies
should meet lowered revenue and net loss targets but out-performance
will likely garner few points from investors.
