 Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESIO) today announced an order
 for multiple laser semiconductor processing systems from Samsung Electronics.
 Delivery will begin during ESI's fourth fiscal quarter, ending May 31, 2001.
 The systems will be shipped to Samsung's Kiheung facility in Korea, where they
 will be used in the production of advanced DRAM devices.

     ESI and Samsung have completed the joint evaluation of 300mm production
 tools for semiconductor laser link processing.  ESI has been selected to
 supply Samsung's 300mm production needs.  ESI has provided the industry with
 the latest technology at each product generation shift, and continue to
 provide semiconductor laser link processing systems that meet the industry's
 device production roadmap.
