Essex to Demonstrate 6.25 and 25 GHz Hyperfine WDM(TM) Channelization at CLEO 2001

Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from Essex Corporation

COLUMBIA, Md., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Essex Corporation announces the
first public demonstration of Hyperfine WDM(TM) on May 9th at the CLEO 2001
tradeshow in the Baltimore Convention Center. CLEO (Conference on Lasers and
Electro-Optics) is a major technical show sponsored by the Optical Society of
America featuring the latest developments in laser and component technology
that drive the improvements in optical telecommunications networks.
In their booth, Essex will be featuring two products scheduled for field
trials in June 2001, a 6.25 GHz and a 25 GHz channel spacing passive
demultiplexer. During the "Hands-On Workshop" at 11 A.M., Wednesday, Essex
will give a presentation that includes a demonstration of a system
demultiplexing two signals at 250 MHz spacing.
Michael Piacenza, VP Business Development at Essex, stated, "6.25 GHz
spacing is a milestone event, enabling up to 640 channels of Gigabit Ethernet
or OC-48 in the C (or L) band alone. Narrowband channels not only increase
the number of channels per fiber by bundling multiple OC-48 channels together,
it is simpler to transverse much longer distances than moving to OC-192 or
 768. For the Metro or Access environments, use of low cost Hyperfine devices
promises to give providers the flexibility to allocate and dedicate smaller
increments of broadband, keeping costly intelligent devices nearer to the
 central office."
In booth 373 at CLEO from May 8th to May 10th, Essex will feature the
Hyperfine family of optical networking and test equipment applications
 including Hyperfine as a: demultiplexer/multiplexer, optical add/drop
multiplexer (OADM), wavelength locker and spectrum analyzer. For more CLEO
information, please visit the website at www.osa.org/mtg_conf/CLEO.
Leonard E. Moodispaw, President and CEO of Essex Corporation, stated,
"Unveiling this technology to the public should generate even more enthusiasm
for Hyperfine. Many companies offering DWDM subsystems and components will
have a unique opportunity to see this technology first hand. We expect the
attention will draw new potential partners to help us accelerate product
 development."
