F-Secure Customers Unscathed by Destructive CIH Virus

F-Secure Software Provides Bullet-proof Protection Against Annual Deadly Virus

Apr 27, 2001, 01:00 ET from F-Secure Corporation

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- F-Secure Corporation (HEX: FSC)
today announced that none of the company's customers were harmed by the deadly
CIH or Chernobyl virus, which has wreaked global havoc annually on April 26th
since 1999. F-Secure customers were protected by F-Secure Anti-Virus software.
Although widespread damage was not expected, the virus still hit several
parts of the world hard, crippling over 1,000 computers in Korea, for example.
Corporations that were ill equipped to properly defend their networks may have
 incurred far-reaching and long-lasting damage.
The most common version of the virus, CIH 1.2, can overwrite the hard disk
and the flash BIOS of an infected computer -- causing complete loss of data,
and possibly rendering the computer unusable. F-Secure advises all computer
users to check their systems with anti-virus software and back up all data.
Chris Vargas, president of F-Secure said, "Our customers have become
accustomed to the highest level of protection from F-Secure Anti-Virus
software. We are pleased, though not surprised, that none of them were
impacted by CIH. We are also impressed with the increased global awareness and
preparedness for this particular security threat. A virus like this one
underscores the need for consistent, reliable protection."
