(firstchoicepower.com) announced today that Manjit S. Cheema has been named

"Manjit brings 24 years of service in the energy industry to First
Choice," said Jack V. Chambers, chairman of the First Choice Power board of
directors and chairman, president and chief executive officer of TNMP. "His
leadership skills and industry knowledge will be invaluable as First Choice
continues to build on the exceptional service model that Texas-New Mexico
 Power Company has established."
Cheema has been a director of First Choice Power since the company's
formation and also has served as senior vice president and chief financial
officer of Texas-New Mexico Power Company since 1994. He holds the position
of treasurer at TNP Enterprises as well. He will continue to have those
responsibilities in addition to his new duties as First Choice president.
"First Choice has a strong, committed team, and I'm looking forward to
working with them to make our entry into the deregulated electric market a
 successful one," Cheema said.
First Choice was formed to prepare for electric competition, which will
begin on a statewide basis in Texas in January 2002. Legislation passed last
year requires utilities to separate into at least three companies -- power
generation, power delivery, and energy sales and service -- before 2002.
First Choice also is participating in the statewide pilot program currently
under way. Through the pilot, up to 5 percent of the state's utility
customers can choose a new energy service provider.
First Choice Power is a wholly owned subsidiary of TNP Enterprises Inc.
