Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from Fonix Corporation

SALT LAKE CITY, and NEW YORK, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Fonix(R)
Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: FONX), a leading provider of natural-user
interface technology solutions for wireless and mobile devices, Internet and
telephony systems, and vehicle telematics, and Audium Corporation, a developer
of voice server and application software that allows people to access Internet
information and complete online transactions using any telephone, today
announced that Fonix has made a strategic investment in Audium Corporation.
The equity investment by Fonix further enhances the relationship between
Audium and Fonix established several weeks ago when Fonix and Audium signed a
Master Collaboration Agreement (see release 03/29/01). Audium's extensive
experience providing solutions to the end-user provides Fonix with an
opportunity to broaden its customer base. Audium utilizes the comprehensive
Fonix FAAST (Fonix Accelerated Application Solutions Technology) Framework for
its voice application development platform for end-users.
"This agreement reflects the Fonix commitment to the telecommunications
server market for VoiceXML applications," said John A. Oberteuffer, Ph.D., and
Fonix Chief Technology Officer. "Our FAAST Framework and Audium's voice
application development platform offer end-users a compelling voice solution
 for their applications."
"Audium has seen a dramatic rise in the demand for our voice application
development platform," said Michael Bergelson, President and CEO of Audium.
"We are pleased with the developments of our partnership with Fonix and we
look forward to utilizing the FAAST Framework to enhance the human-like
 interaction provided by voice technology."
The Fonix investment provides for representation on the Audium board of
directors and the rights to acquire up to 30% of the equity securities of
 Audium.
The FAAST Framework is a development environment for designing, building,
and implementing applications that integrate advanced speech technologies.
FAAST components include tools for server systems, and support major operating
systems and hardware platforms in these systems. Components of FAAST include
various class libraries in C++ and Java, ActiveX controls, the Fonix
Customized Vocabulary Text-To-Speech (TTS) Engine, the Fonix Unlimited
Vocabulary TTS Engine, and the Fonix Multi-lingual TTS Engine. The FAAST
Framework supports Fonix speaker-independent speech recognition engines as
well as non-Fonix speech engines, when required, providing developers with
additional flexibility in meeting specific end-user requirements.
