Apr 12, 2001, 01:00 ET from Med-Design Corporation

    VENTURA, Calif., April 12 /PRNewswire/ --
The Med-Design Corporation (Nasdaq: MEDC), a pioneer in the design and
development of safety needle products for medical use, applauds the submission
of a 510K application for FDA approval to market the new Safety Guidewire
Introducer Needle. Developed in cooperation with MedAmicus (Nasdaq: MEDM),
the Guidewire Safety Needle employs Med-Design's proprietary center-line
 retraction technology.
"FDA approval to market the Safety Guidewire Introducer Needle is the last
step in the process of making this product available to health care workers
across the United States," said Michael Simpson, Chief Operating Officer of
The Med-Design Corporation. "We have worked closely with MedAmicus to develop
the Guidewire Safety Needle and are pleased that these efforts will likely
result in a commercial launch of the product in the third quarter of this
 year."
Med-Design is also exploring additional market opportunities with
MedAmicus, including arterial indications for the Safety Guidewire Introducer
Needle. Med-Design is committed to aggressively pursuing entry into at least
seven specialty or "niche" markets as they offer a variety of manufacturing
options and should return significant profit margins to the Company.
MedAmicus' in-house manufacturing capabilities may support the production of
additional "niche" products, should further licensing agreements be reached
 with MedAmicus.

Med-Design has a significant and impressive portfolio of issued and
pending patents protecting its proprietary safety needle technology, including
15 US patents issued, 16 foreign national patents, and one European patent
covering 12 countries, and numerous patents pending in the US and
internationally. Med-Design has developed over 26 safety needle products that
are designed to enable medical workers to efficiently perform a wide range of
medical procedures at greatly reduced risk of exposure to accidental needle
sticks. The Company develops user-friendly and cost-effective safety needle
devices, utilizing its expertise in creating products that meet stringent user
requirements, while minimizing manufacturing cost. The Company's safety
needle products cover applications within the important risk areas of blood
collection, infusion therapy, insertion, and injection.
