Forum for Women Entrepreneurs Launches Orange County Chapter

Apr 19, 2001, 01:00 ET from Venture Point Tech Coast SBDC

IRVINE, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Orange County's first meeting of
the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, hosted by Venture Point Tech Coast SBDC on
Monday, April 9, attracted more than 40 women entrepreneurs, executives from
start-up and high-tech companies, investors and those providing business
services to start-ups. The meeting offered insight into the organization's
mission to offer education, access to funding and networking opportunities to
 women entrepreneurs.
"Orange County has the nation's third largest population of women
entrepreneurs, yet offers few networking and education organizations for women
in high-tech industries," said Karen Gifford, director of consulting services
at Venture Point. "FWE does a fantastic job of educating while offering a
community of peer support that is vital to the ongoing success of high-tech
 entrepreneurs."
The meeting was lead by Southern California FWE president, Kathleen
Bartle-Schuweis, who explained the mission of the organization as well as the
expectations and goals of the Orange County chapter. Karen Gifford, director
of consulting services for Venture Point, highlighted the Center's services
and the opportunities for the organizations to work cooperatively in reaching
high tech women entrepreneurs seeking equity as part of their financing mix.
The meeting concluded with a question and answer session about FWE, critical
business issues and the future events of the organization. Attendees received
information about FWE membership and facts about venture funding received to
date by FWE members along with information about Venture Point's pro bono
consulting services for technology start-ups and emerging companies.
"Between October 1999 and December 2000, 50 FWE members raised
$600 million in venture funding with no single company raising less than
$1 million," said Kathleen Bartle-Schuweis, president of the Southern
California FWE office. "We expect the Orange County chapter to see similar
success as many of the members have been previously active in FWE chapters in
other cities. This group has the benefits of a large high-tech community and
 a membership of experienced professionals."
Venture Point plans to co-sponsor future FWE meetings and networking
events, including a "If I knew then what I know now" panel of entrepreneur
experts and an invite-only CEO luncheon. The next Orange County FWE member
meeting is scheduled for June 11th. Event details are listed online at
