FutureLink Signs ASP Deal With Jewson

FutureLink to Roll Out Application Service Provider (ASP) Services To

385 Jewson Outlets in the United Kingdom

Apr 26, 2001, 01:00 ET from FutureLink Corp.

LAKE FOREST, Calif., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- FutureLink Corp.
(Nasdaq: FTRL), a leading provider of integrated solutions, hosted application
services and one of the first application infrastructure companies to provide
software as a service, announced today that it has signed a contract with
Jewson, the United Kingdom's leading timber and builders' company, to provide
an ASP-enabled office system supporting 385 outlets across the UK. As one of
the UK's largest ASP deals to date, FutureLink's European business arm,
FutureLink Europe, will complete the roll out to Jewson branches within the
 next three months.
Using FutureLink Europe's ASP delivery model, the deployment will enable
Jewson's branch managers to have online access to a complete back office
system. Hosted at FutureLink Europe's UK data center, it will provide the
385 branches with a fully managed and packaged ASP service using the
Microsoft(R) Office 2000 Suite. As well as providing its branch management
with access to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint(R), Jewson will also use
Microsoft Outlook(R) to replace its old text-based e-mail system -- with all
of the applications accessible via a FutureLink-hosted Internet Explorer
 5.0 Web browser interface.
After examining FutureLink Europe's technical expertise and
infrastructure, Jewson selected FutureLink as the ASP best equipped to deliver
the new system in a cost effective and timely manner to its 385 UK branches.
Under the agreement with FutureLink Europe, Jewson will be able to provide its
management staff with mission critical applications, on a per-user, per-month
basis, completely scalable and available to meet the business' demands.
According to David Hall, IT infrastructure manager for Jewson: "ASP is an
ideal solution for Jewson, enabling us to quickly introduce valuable office
productivity and messaging software into our UK outlets. This allows our
management staff to access the new applications through a web browser from any
of our locations. With FutureLink Europe's proven track record in the ASP
market, we are able to roll out the system to branches in considerably less
time and cost than it would take to manually install the software on a
PC-based system. In our busy trading environment, the model's per-user,
per-month basis also means that we can easily add more users to our network
 without incurring up-front expenditure."
Donna Bullock, ASP marketing manager at Microsoft, comments on the deal:
"This is a great example of how a big company like Jewson is capitalizing
on the flexibility that a hosted solution can offer. Businesses want to
concentrate on what's important -- increasing productivity rather than
investing their capital and resources in managing traditional, manually
installed systems. FutureLink's service, coupled with Microsoft's agile suite
of products gives Jewson the freedom to concentrate on building its business."
Yuri Pasea, President of FutureLink Europe, states: "We are delighted to
be working with Jewson. Today's announcement demonstrates ASP's value
proposition when delivering software as a service across the enterprise.
By using the ASP model to remove the cost and resource issues involved in
installing traditional shrink wrapped software, coupled with our skills
and infrastructure, Jewson can continue running its successful business
without having to focus on running its back office system at each of its
 385 locations."
