Futuremedia's easycando Provides Online Training to Expand Skills of Job-Risk Employees for CNDL Group and Cornwall College Joint Project

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Futuremedia PLC

ARUNDEL, England, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- An innovative venture to
empower employees with new skills should they experience redundancy or
enforced part-time hours is to use easycando e-learning solutions from
Futuremedia Plc (Nasdaq: FMDAY). CNDL and Cornwall College are developing the
'ELIPSE' e-learning website, part of the 'You Can' initiative to help
employees improve or diversify their work knowledge.
The projects will use the 1300 available courses on easycando to allow
e-learners to improve their skills on topics like basic IT skills, writing a
CV or an introduction to accounts. easycando's online learning academies
include accounting, IT, marketing, ebusiness and business practices.
Additionally, special courses will be developed to suit the users, such as
E-Commerce -- The Basics for SMEs.
A major part of the project incorporates Futuremedia's learning management
system (LMS). Results from the LMS will be analysed by CNDL to track the
progress of individual learners for both the college and the companies who
adopt the scheme for employees, enabling tutors to manage the learning process
 fully.
It is estimated that 2500 people will use the website in the first year,
although this has not been a simple figure to calculate. The site is being
created for the people with job fears in Cornwall, Somerset and Devon, yet
e-learning has no geographical limitations and it can be used by all
individuals who have access to the internet and want to improve their skills.
"ELIPSE ultimately ensures a rapid, convenient and effective access to
knowledge and skills development, irrespective of a person's situation or
educational level," comments Raoul Humphreys, Director of Cornwall College.
"Many SMEs and employers already access learning for their employees through
further education and higher education, but few use the internet," adds Chris
Neal, Chairman of CNDL Group. "The website creates a portal for employers
seeking advice and guidance on learning, enabling them to actively help their
employees by driving them to ELIPSE."
Mats Johansson, Futuremedia's CEO, comments: "This project combines the
academic expertise of Cornwall College with the proven technical capabilities
of the CNDL Group. They have chosen easycando e-learning solutions to gain
quick and simple access to many online courses and to be able to track and
analyse the results using our learning management system".
