FutureTV Launches iTV Printing for the Home

Apr 24, 2001, 01:00 ET from FutureTV

LAS VEGAS, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- FutureTV, the leading developer of
software solutions for the interactive television industry, today launches its
embedded t-print service environment at the NAB2001 exhibition in Las Vegas.
As part of FutureTV's continuing program to expand the range of services
available to interactive TV Service Providers, it will be demonstrating the
MediaCore Service Platform outputting very high quality documents on the
 latest HP e-printer e20 from Hewlett-Packard Company.
The MediaCore Service Platform with t-print enablement allows printable
material (such as background materials, pictures, coupons and vouchers) to be
associated with media assets and directly delivered to the living room for
output on a printer such as the HP e-printer e20. This is especially useful
when associated with advertising. In addition, documents of all types can be
browsed, selected and billed for as simply as any other media in the Service
 Offering.
Ricky Rand, CEO of FutureTV said, "We see print enablement as a logical
progression to further enhance the capabilities of iTV, and the HP e-printer
e20 allows us to demonstrate these enhanced services in a living room
environment. ITV is now in the mainstream."
"The unique document handling process HP has co-developed with FutureTV
will enrich the interactive television experience," said Sarah Gutz, solutions
development manager, HP Imaging and Printing Systems. "We believe print
capabilities like these will transform the way we watch and use television and
will become an essential part of home equipment."
Paul Clark, CTO of FutureTV, said, "Now that we have fully integrated
printable media into our Service Platform, we are able to render complex, high
quality documents even from low end set-top-boxes. This enables in-home
printing of news, traffic and weather reports plus personal items such as
calendars and reminders. The advertising industry will also benefit greatly
from the ability to distribute coupons, vouchers and brochures, when
associated with video and banner advertisements."
