Gentleware Joins Sun Microsystems' Forte(TM) for Java(TM) Extension Partners Program and Integrates Poseidon for UML into Forte for Java IDE

Jun 04, 2001, 01:00 ET from Gentleware

HAMBURG, Germany, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Gentleware, a leading vendor of
Unified Modeling Language (UML) modeling tools, today announced that it has
joined the growing number of tool vendors building extensions to Sun
Microsystems' Forte(TM) for Java(TM) integrated development environment (IDE).
Gentleware's Poseidon for UML(TM), used in conjunction with the Forte for Java
IDE, provides joint customers with powerful modeling features using UML.
Poseidon for UML is based on the popular open source project ArgoUML
(www.argouml.tigris.org), just as the Forte for Java IDE is based on the
NetBeans(TM) open source platform (www.netbeans.org). ArgoUML is well known in
the open source community and has more than 100,000 registered users. With
Poseidon for UML, Gentleware provides the high level of commercial support
preferred by many companies and professionals. Gentleware, which was founded
by some of the core developers of ArgoUML, offers professional extensions and
support services. Gentleware's tool integration strategy leverages one of the
 key advantages of open source.
Poseidon for UML Community Edition has been delivered as a product that
integrates with Forte for Java, Community Edition. This Poseidon edition will
be demonstrated at the JavaOne(SM) Developer Conference, June 4-8 in San
Francisco, and will be available free of charge. A Professional and Enterprise
Edition are scheduled to follow soon.
"The Forte for Java IDE community stands for innovation, productivity and
experience," said Dr. Marko Boger, the Chief Executive Officer of Gentleware.
"With its foundation in open source, it is the ideal complement to our tools.
While Poseidon for UML focuses on the analysis and design phase of software
construction, the Forte for Java environment provides the tools needed in the
construction phase. Now we can offer both worlds in one environment, a great
 leap forward for software engineers."
"The popularity of the ArgoUML tool came from its ease of use and
intuitive interface, a firm foundation that Gentleware's Poseidon for UML uses
to enrich the power of the Forte for Java tool set," states David Taber,
Director of Portal and Business Development, Forte Tools, Sun Microsystems.
"Poseidon for UML and the Forte for Java IDE share a common heritage and
philosophy regarding open source. The combination of the products gives our
users direct access to UML modeling from within the Forte for Java IDE,
streamlining the design and development process on Linux, the Solaris(TM)
 Operating Environment and Windows NT."
