Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Global Sources

HONG KONG, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Sources Ltd. (Nasdaq: GSOL),
the global merchandise trade enabler, announced today that its independently
audited buyer community reached 226,361* in over 230 countries and territories
as of April 1, 2001. This is an increase of 16% as compared with 195,367 in
 the fourth quarter of 1999.
To better serve the needs of this growing community, the Company recently
upgraded its award-winning flagship site, Global Sources Online
( http://www.globalsources.com ), to allow buyers to more quickly and easily
find the products and suppliers that they need. The new state-of-the-art
platform was developed in-house and supports both parametric category and free
text searching. These features help buyers quickly identify products they
need from more than 100,000 suppliers in 149 countries on the Company's global
 marketplace.
This improved search functionality has further enhanced activity on the
site, as measured by Requests for Information (RFIs). RFIs are online
inquiries that buyers make to suppliers. This number reached a record of
775,711** in the first quarter of 2001, an increase of 35% from 575,470 in the
same period last year. This inquiry figure is testimony that Global Sources
Online effectively enables buyers to source, communicate and transact with the
right suppliers. The site was further recognized as Best B2B Internet Site at
the Internet World Asia Industry Awards 2001 in March.
"Global Sources is Asia's largest B2B marketplace, and the 8th largest net
market in the world, according to Jupiter Media Metrix," said Craig Pepples,
Chief Operating Officer of Global Sources. "These latest statistics support
the belief that we host more sourcing activity than any other global
merchandise trade marketplace. For many buyers, Global Sources is the
marketplace of choice for global merchandise trade."
Global Sources' online offering is uniquely supported by the Company's
transactional software and services, online buyer and supplier catalogs, and
complementary media which is comprised of 8 monthly trade publications, 3
management and technical publications, and more than 20 industry-specific CD-
ROMs, and technical conferences and exhibitions.
"For companies to grow in today's market, it is critical to focus on
meeting customer needs with added-value services. We have been doing this for
30 years. The growth of our community and the recent upgrade of our site
exemplify our ongoing commitment to enabling global merchandise trade,"
 concluded Pepples.
