AUSTIN, Texas, April 19 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- With

remind people of simple decisions that can be made in every day life that are
 good for the environment.

Saving water, saving energy, recycling and reusing are just a few of the
ways that individuals can make a difference this Earth Day. Many consumers
also have the option of choosing a "green" electricity provider like Green
Mountain Energy that utilizes renewable resources such as the sun and the
wind. This is important since making electricity is the number one cause of
industrial air pollution in the U.S.*
"It is a good time for everyone to think about what he or she could be
doing to better protect our environment," said Tom Rawls, chief environmental
officer for Green Mountain Energy Company. "As a Company we strive to be
responsible caretakers of the environment and we believe this is the perfect
time to suggest some really easy ways individuals can make a difference."
Green Mountain Energy Company is encouraging people to make a pledge this
Earth Day to do something to benefit the environment. Some things the Company
 suggests people consider:

     SAVE ENERGY

     * Use fluorescent bulbs instead of traditional bulbs. Substituting just
one fluorescent light for a traditional bulb can keep around 1,000
pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
     * Turn your computer off when you are going to be away for an hour or more
or use the energy saving "sleep" feature that is available on most
computers. Generating enough electricity to power the world's PCs
requires the equivalent of 23 million tons of coal every year.

     SAVE WATER

     * Install a low-flow showerhead. You could use 30 to 50% less water.
     * Wash your dishes by hand twice a week. Washing your dishes by hand
requires 37% less water than using the dishwasher.

     REUSE AND RECYCLE

     * Choose products with minimal packaging. The average American throws out
his own weight in packaging every month.
     * Utilize your community's curbside recycling program. If your community
doesn't have one, work with your neighbors to make it happen. Curbside
recycling programs have increased 10-fold since 1987; the amount of
solid waste being recycled has grown from just 7% to 22%.
     * Recycle your newspapers. If everyone did this just once a week it would
save 36 million trees a year.

     SUPPORT GREEN ELECTRICITY

     * Switch to a "green" electricity provider. Making electricity causes more
air pollution than any other industry.
     * By choosing a "green" provider like Green Mountain Energy Company that
incorporate sources like the wind and sun, you can help reduce the
production of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide. These
are harmful pollutants that lead to global warming, acid rain and smog.
