GW Associates' 300 MM Software Fab Qualified

Apr 24, 2001, 01:00 ET from GW Associates, Inc.

    SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 24 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ --
GW Associates today announced that it received fab qualification from a major
U.S. chip manufacturer for its 300 mm connectivity software, GWconX300. The
software package, which currently runs in more than 30 types of 300 mm
process, metrology, and material handling equipment, has passed source
inspection and rigorous third party compliance tests and is now used in
 operating 300 mm fabs.
March was the last step in GW's 300 mm qualification process. The final
development phase of GWconX300 was completed and in conjunction with several
customers it successfully passed fab certification tests for four of the
largest 300 mm fabs that have been announced.
"Today's highly complex automation hardware and software are essential to
achieving 300 mm fab ramp-up goals with high yields," said Jack Ghiselli,
president of GW Associates. "IC manufacturers worldwide are rapidly moving to
the 300 mm generation so equipment suppliers must get serious about filling
the need for reliable tool connectivity or risk being left out of these fabs
 of the future."
Karl Gartland, Project Manager Computer Integrated Manufacturing of IBM
agreed. "Industry-standard connectivity software is essential to achieving our
300 mm fab ramp-up plans," Gartland said. "We will not accept equipment
 without it."
While the general economic conditions in the industry are quite poor,
equipment manufacturers must be ready for the next upturn and technology shift
so 300 mm tool development programs continue to be well funded. Because the
need for full compliance with all the SEMI 300 mm connectivity standards is
required for these tools, GW Associates projects 2001 to be one of the best
 years in its 27-year existence.
