Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from Orthofix

    HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Orthofix (Nasdaq: OFIX)
announced today that Healthy Solutions, a health program on Cable television,
will air a special report "High-Tech Back Pain Relief", exploring the benefits
of the novel Orthotrac(TM) Pneumatic Vest, marketed by Orthofix International
and designed by Kinesis Medical, Inc. of Bloomington, Minn.. This special
report will air on Saturday, April 21st at 12:00 pm (EST) on CNBC, Sunday,
April 22nd at 7:30 am (EST) on the Health Network, and on Monday, April 23rd
at 8:00 am (EST) on the Bravo Network.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), five
million persons in the U.S. suffer from chronic back-pain. Approximately one
million of these will require surgery, according to a 1999 Dain Rauscher
Wessels report. The remaining four million patients will struggle to find
ways to effectively manage their back pain, with about half of them seeking
 professional help.
The Orthotrac(TM) Pneumatic Vest, marketed by Orthofix, designed
specifically for individuals afflicted with back pain. One of the main
functions of the Orthotrac(TM) Vest is to reduce the compressive forces on the
spine by transferring the upper body weight off the spine to the hips. This,
in effect, takes the pain off of the back and allows the patient to recover
from back pain in a more effective and timely manner.
