BEDFORD, Mass., April 20 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/-- Hologic,
Inc., (Nasdaq: HOLX) the leading provider of osteoporosis testing technology,
today announced an exclusive distribution agreement with MEDICA, a healthcare
consulting company that develops Personal Healthcare Centers in communities
across the country. The agreement provides Hologic with an additional
distribution channel for the Sahara Ultrasound Bone Sonometer to be sold into
non-traditional markets including pharmacies, rehabilitation facilities and
physician's offices as part of MEDICA's community-based Personal Health Center
 program.
The exclusive agreement will supply MEDICA's 350 Personal Health Center
sites with preventive healthcare instrumentation for bone density testing. The
Sahara Bone Sonometer estimates bone density to aid in the diagnosis of
osteoporosis and the evaluation of fracture risk. The test is safe, simple and
takes only a few seconds to administer.
"By making the Sahara unit available to local pharmacies we are giving
them capabilities to provide their customers with preventive health
screenings, diagnostic testing, patient education and one-on-one counseling
for osteoporosis and fracture risk," stated Tori Tomlinson, CEO, MEDICA. "We
are very pleased to partner with Hologic and offer the Sahara as an integral
part of MEDICA's Women's Wellness Package.
Through this program we're addressing the need for patients to receive
quality preventive care from their local pharmacist who isn't under the same
time constraints as their primary care physician."
"This agreement is further evidence that Hologic remains at the forefront
of women's health issues by providing a bone density testing system that can
easily be incorporated into the growing number of personal health and wellness
centers," said Eric VonStetten Vice President and General Manager Osteoporosis
Assessment, Hologic, Inc. "We are addressing the demand for easy access to
preventive healthcare solutions through our partnership with MEDICA."
