'Hope Blooms' for Cancer Research at Walgreens in May

 Walgreens (NYSE:   WAG), the nation's largest drugstore chain, and the American
 Cancer Society today announced the launch of "Hope Blooms with You," a
 campaign to raise funds to help fight breast cancer.  The promotion will be
 conducted in all 3,374 Walgreens stores during the month of May.
     Beginning April 29, Walgreens customers will be able to join the fight
 against breast cancer by buying a "Hope Blooms with You" paper bloom for a
 $1 donation.  The blooms will be displayed in Walgreens stores, with the
 donor's name, signifying his or her personal commitment to eliminating breast
 cancer.  The funds will go toward the American Cancer Society's local programs
 and nationwide breast cancer research.
     "As a healthcare retailer, it's a priority for us to fight diseases such
 as cancer," said David Bernauer, Walgreens president.  "Last year Walgreens
 raised over $500,000 through bloom sales and contributed more than $600,000 to
 the American Cancer Society."
     The American Cancer Society is the nationwide volunteer organization
 dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health concern through research,
 education, service and advocacy.
