Hot Companies: Over 370 Received Funding in March 2001

    SAN DIEGO, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Facts Online (www.Facts-Online.com)
 announced that, despite the weak economy in March, over 370 U.S. technology
 based companies received new fundings.
     During March, the new fundings spread across 32 states.  Of these 32
 states, 17 states (53%) had at least 5 or more companies with new fundings:
 Arizona (1.3%), California (32.9%), Colorado (1.6%), Connecticut (1.6%),
 Florida (3.2%), Georgia (3.8%), Illinois (4.0%), Maryland (1.6%),
 Massachusetts (10.6%), Minnesota (1.9%), New Jersey (2.1%), New York (8.1%),
 North Carolina (5.1%), Pennsylvania (2.7%), Texas (5.4%), Virginia (3.2%), and
 Washington (4.3%).
     Ownership also varied during March, 81% are privately owned and 19% are
 public.  Of the public companies, NASDAQ dominates with 13.6%.
     Software continues to dominate with 32.1% of the funded companies.
 Pharmaceuticals / Biotech / Health Devices companies represented 8.1% of the
 total funded businesses.  Information services companies, including
 Application Service Providers, had 9.2%.  Other major sectors are:
 Manufacturers of communications equipment (7.9%) and Telecom Providers,
 including wireless and DSL (7.3%).
     To qualify, these tech-based companies must have received new fundings
 during March 2001.  Examples of new fundings include:  venture capital,
 investments by other companies, initial public offerings, private placements,
 new bond issues and major increases in line of credit.  In addition, the
 companies must have national presence or potential.
