    SAN JOSE, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Highly integrated hot-swap
 power controllers for mass storage and data communications applications are
 available from Micrel Semiconductor (Nasdaq:   MCRL), an industry leader in
 power management and high-speed communications integrated circuits.
     Manufactured in 8-pin SOP and 16-pin QSOP packages, the MIC2582 and
 MIC2583 offer robust fault protection for circuits operating between 2.3V and
 13.2V.  They also provide 20V input surge protection, thereby eliminating the
 need for external protection circuits.
     Both devices are designed to control an external N-Channel MOSFET switch
 for controlled inrush current during board insertion. The devices also provide
 fault isolation. Dual level fault protection provides filtering of high
 current surges that can occur in a system while still reacting rapidly to
 short-circuit faults, thereby preserving input supply regulation.
     The MIC2583 offers a "power-good" output in addition to a power-on-reset
 (POR) output for programmable processors. The MIC2583R option offers
 auto-retry fault recovery.
     "We designed the MIC2582 and MIC2583 to address applications where
 reliability and hot swap capability are a necessity, as they are in mass
