IDG's PC World Wins an Industry-Leading Five Maggie Awards

Top Technology Magazine Earns More Awards Than Any Other Publication; Honored

for Best Computer Magazine & Best Online Publication Home Page Design

    SAN FRANCISCO, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- At an
 award ceremony held last week during the Folio: West show in Los Angeles,
 PC World was presented with a publishing industry-leading five Maggie Awards
 from the Western Publications Association (WPA). Once again named "Best
 Computer Magazine," PC World earned more accolades than any other publication
 in the competition, with recognition bridging both editorial and design, print
 and the Web. Since 1988, PC World has won a record 22 Maggie Awards.
     "This is a tribute to the hard work and journalistic talent of our staff,
 who have firmly established PC World as the 'Best Computer Magazine' it is,"
 said Kevin McKean, editorial director. "For PCWorld.com to win 'Best Home Page
 Design' is a direct result of its recent redesign. And the art department's
 two trophies for print design showcase their artistic expertise in both media.

 transition into print."
     PC World leads the technology press with a total of four Maggies for
 "Best Computer Publication" since 1988. To be selected this year's winner,
 PC World's June 2000 special issue on privacy was rated on how well the
 editorial and design components worked together to meet the magazine's
 objectives, depth of research, and the articles' clear and interesting writing
 style. The June issue also won a 2001 Neal Award from American Business Media
 for "Best Single Issue."
     Last fall, with the help of design firm Hot Studio, Inc., PCWorld.com
 underwent a complete redesign of the site-with the goals of improving the user
 experience, streamlining the content, and including new interactive tools and
 services. The new, Maggie Award-winning home page design (www.pcworld.com)
 achieves all of those objectives and was honored by the WPA judges for its
 consistent graphic presentation, easy and intuitive navigation, dynamic and
 interactive design, and use of photos and illustrations to highlight the Web
 site's product focus.
     PC World also took home two Maggies for excellence in print design:  "Best
 Single Editorial Illustration/Consumer" for Marc Simon's artwork in the
 September 2000 travel notebook review "10 for the Road," and "Best Single
 Editorial Photograph/Consumer" for the October 2000 feature "Slim & Sexy,"
 with photo illustrations by Mir Lada. PC World assistant art director Beth
 Kamoroff designed both stories.
     A series of hard-hitting columns on the questions surrounding privacy,
 "Privacy Watch" (www.pcworld.com/maggies/privacy) covers many controversial
 issues, including online voting, medical records, and the problems posed by
 weak federal laws-and offers strategies for fighting back and protecting
 personal information. Andrew Brandt's winning entries for "Best Regularly

 PCWorld.com audience, their consistent style, clear focus, liveliness,
