SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonald's restaurants in the Sacramento, Stockton, and Modesto area are hosting the inaugural Golden Arches Run on Sunday, August 16 in downtown Sacramento.  This event includes a 5K and a 10K Run throughout the downtown Sacramento area and will also feature a mile and half-mile "Fun Run" for kids.  Proceeds from the event will go to support both Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern California and Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California.

The Golden Arches Run will start at approximately 7:30 am in downtown Sacramento at the Capitol Mall and will go until 12 pm.  The 5K run will start at 7:50 am with the 10K run starting shortly after at 8 am. Registration for adults (18 and up) who sign up for the 5K or 10K is $32. Kids and teens under 18 who sign up for either the 5K or 10K will pay $27.  Kids who sign up for the one mile run or the ½ mile run will pay $16.50 per child.  Those interested in registering can visit www.changeofpace.com to sign up.

"Runs are extremely popular here in the Sacramento region and the McDonald's franchisees wanted to put on an event for our customers that they can enjoy, that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle, and raises funds for both Shriners Hospitals and Ronald McDonald House Charities," said Harris Liu, a McDonald's restaurant owner in Sacramento. "Some people may not be aware that over the last several years, McDonald's menu has evolved by maintaining the same iconic food items that we know our customers love and including some healthier choices for those who prefer those kinds of items.  McDonald's wanted to put on a fun, healthy event for families where they can participate in a beautiful run through Sacramento and then enjoy some of our food items once their run is finished."

As runners cross the finish line, they will have the opportunity to try some McDonald's food items that will be available.  Participants will be able to try McDonald's cheeseburgers, apple slices, chocolate milk, and Go-Gurts.  McDonald's will also have a smoothie truck available where Mango Pineapple and Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie samples will be distributed.

The Golden Arches Run will include a variety of fun surprises for participants that follow the McDonald's theme.  The starting line of the Run will include a golden balloon archway that the runners will start at that resembles the iconic McDonald's Golden ArchesRonald McDonald will be on hand that morning to take photos and kick off each Run, and there will be water stations throughout the Run called "Run-Thru's" that will mimic a standard McDonald's Drive-Thru.  Each runner will also receive a medal that will come in an iconic red Happy Meal box.

The Golden Arches Run will also provide a Race Expo at the finish line that will feature booths from a variety of different sponsors who are supporting this event.  Runners can come and enjoy free food and visit all of the sponsors who will be on hand with giveaways and information for participants and their families.

Most importantly, proceeds from the Golden Arches Run will go to two very worthy causes in Northern California – Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California and Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern California.  Shriners Hospital is a world-renowned children's hospital that provides highly specialized care and rehabilitation to children with congenital conditions and complex medical needs regardless of the ability of the patient or family to pay.  The Ronald McDonald House Charities is a "home away from home" for the families of sick children who are in need of a place to stay while their child is receiving treatment at any of the local hospitals in the Sacramento region. Ronald McDonald House Charities provides housing for the families of children who are admitted at Shriners Hospital showcasing how the two charities work collaboratively to provide a great need for sick children and their families.

"The McDonald's restaurant owners here in the Sacramento, Stockton, and Modesto region have financially supported other Runs here in the area but this is the first time that McDonald's has put on a Run where we are the title sponsor," stated Liu.  "We are excited to put on an event here in Sacramento that we hope will continue for years to come."
