Innovative Specialty Films, LLC Announced Today the Acquisition of NeoVac

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Material Sciences Corporation

    RALEIGH-DURHAM, N.C., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Formed in 1996, and
headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, NeoVac is a leading designer,
manufacturer and marketer of transparent conductive indium tin oxide (ITO)
coated plastic film for use in Electroluminescent Lamp (EL) and Touch Panel
applications. The acquisition of NeoVac brings a number of new developments in
the field of ITO deposition, significantly augmenting ISF's existing capacity,
technology and capability to produce ITO coated plastic films (ISF trademark
T-MOX(R)) and satisfy projected market demands. With one production sputter
roll coater in full production and a second larger state-of-the-art machine
due to come on line in the third quarter of 2001, the Santa Rosa facility is
slated to become ISF's center of excellence for ITO coated film development
 and production in the US.
Gary Phillips, ISF's vice president of sales and marketing said, "The
global market for ITO coated film for both EL and Touch Panel applications is
rapidly expanding. With most cell phones and automotive instrument panels
incorporating an EL, and rapid expansion in the use of computer touch screens,
demand for ITO coated film has the potential for double-digit growth in the
coming years. ISF has been successfully marketing ITO coated film produced at
its Zulte, Belgium plant for some time. By utilizing state-of-the-art
technology and combining the strengths of ISF and NeoVac, ISF will become a
market leader, offering products and services that are at the forefront of the
 industry."
John Fenn, NeoVac's president, commented, "The rapid market growth of
Touch Panels and ELs, particularly in the Far East, has resulted in a
significant increase in demand for ITO coated films. The merging of NeoVac
into ISF will enable us to take full advantage of this opportunity in a timely
fashion. We also look forward to developing new markets and products for
sputter deposited materials by combining the technical resources of both
 companies."
Formed in 1999, Innovative Specialty Films, LLC is a 50:50 joint venture
between MSC Specialty Films Inc and Bekaert Corporation (a 100% subsidiary of
the Bekaert Group and part of Bekaert's Advanced Materials Division). With
manufacturing facilities in San Diego, California; Raleigh-Durham, North
Carolina and Zulte, Belgium, ISF is one of the world's foremost sputter roll
 coating companies.
ISF ( www.isfilms.com ) is a market leader in the production, development
and marketing of highly specialized sputtered thin films onto flexible
polymeric substrates. With sales offices in the USA, Belgium and Japan, ISF
has, since its formation, enjoyed rapid growth in a number of business
segments it serves, which include ITO coated films, solar control window film,
soft magnetic anti-counterfeit materials, flexible circuits, photoreceptors,
