Interactive Discussions Leading Up to Tax Day

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Talk City Marketing Group

CAMPBELL, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Talk City Marketing Group
(Nasdaq: TCTY) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under which it will be the exclusive provider
of interactive community services for the agency's Web site,
http://www.irs.gov. Under the terms of the agreement, Talk City has been
charged with producing and managing a series of live chats and discussions
with IRS tax experts in connection with the Service's electronic tax filing
 initiative, e-File.
The live chats, which began on April 5, will continue through tax day,
with the next event scheduled for Thursday, April 12 at 4:00 pm EDT. These
forums will enable the IRS to communicate directly with taxpayers as tax
season closes, providing information and answering tax-related questions.
Now in its sixteenth year, the e-File program saw 2.3 million Americans --
both individuals and businesses -- file electronically in 2000, up from
1.5 million in 1999. For the current filing season, as of March 12, that
number exceeded 713,000, 24% ahead of the comparable period last year.
"We are enormously pleased to be helping the IRS provide taxpayers with a
new set of online resources that will make the tax-filing process quicker and
easier," said Peter Friedman, CEO, Talk City Marketing Group. "As the number
of e-filers continues to increase, we are helping the IRS reach out to
taxpayers and respond to the growing demand for accurate and reliable online
 information."
The IRS is aggressively promoting e-File to encourage online filing, which
it expects to significantly expedite returns. Talk City Marketing Group's
technical expertise and experience in the community services arena provide the
agency with the tools they need to continue to move tax-filing the digital age
 and enhance their online presence.
