International Channel Networks Announces 'We The People' Campaign for National Citizenship Month

Multicultural Citizenship Campaign Combines Public Affairs Activities With

Original Production to Air in September

Apr 17, 2001, 01:00 ET from International Channel Networks

LITTLETON, Colo., April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- International Channel Networks,
a majority-owned company of Liberty Media Corporation (NYSE: LMG.A, LMG.B),
today announced its "We the People" citizenship campaign that will be centered
around National Citizenship Month in September. The campaign will incorporate
public affairs elements for its cable affiliates, as well as an on-air
 original production.
The "We the People" campaign will provide online resources to assist
immigrants in their process of becoming United States citizens. International
Channel's affiliates will be given the tools to support local naturalization
classes. Also, throughout the month of September, International Channel will
air "In America," an original series profiling prominent immigrants in America
 today.
In addition, viewers will be encouraged to go online and share their own
accounts. These viewer stories will then be placed on International Channel's
Web site and featured in short on-air segments.
"We the People" presents an opportunity for cable operators to get
involved with the ethnic communities in their area. Cable systems will be
encouraged to expand their community relations programs to include the growing
and under-served multicultural audience through sponsoring or providing other
 support for citizenship classes.
"International Channel Networks is in a unique situation. We touch a
segment of the population that is not effectively reached through more
traditional public affairs programs," said Kent Rice, president of
International Channel Networks. "Our 'We the People' campaign will help
connect cable operators with this niche audience at a grassroots level and
support these ethnic groups through an extremely valuable community service."
The "In America" program will be a 3-part series. The first installment
will highlight the stories of Chinese Americans -- their immigration journeys
and experiences as Chinese-Americans living in the U.S.
The campaign will be promoted on the International Channel, through cross-
channel spots and radio ads, and through grassroots marketing tactics such as
flyers and posters placed in the targeted ethnic communities.
"The new census figures make it clear that the American population is made
up of an increasing number of recent immigrants. 'We the People' is
International Channel Networks' contribution to our viewers' growing
communities," said Rice. "We want to be a source of inspiration and
information for people arriving in American and who aspire to become U.S.
 citizens.
The Asian, European and Middle-Eastern population in America is estimated
to total approximately 45 million people. The demographics of these recent
immigrants make them likely buyers of advanced broadband products such as
high-speed Internet access and telephony services. Immigrants have been
actively courted by cable systems' main competitors, including home satellite
and overbuilders. However, cable television, with its local presence has a
 distinct advantage over these competitors.
International Channel Networks is the premier provider and marketer of
multicultural, multilingual television programming in the United States. Its
basic cable service, International Channel, provides programming from around
the world in more than 20 Asian, European and Middle Eastern languages.
International Channel Networks also markets and provides 11 premium
international television channels: ART (Arabic), CCTV-4 (Chinese), CTN
(Chinese), RAI (Italian), Scandinavian Channel, The Filipino Channel, TV Asia
(South Asian), TV5 (French), TV JAPAN, TVR (Russian) and Zee TV (South Asian).
In addition, International Channel Networks markets and provides Canales n, a
digital package of Spanish-language services that includes Discovery en
Espanol, CNN en Espanol, Fox Sports World Espanol, Toon Disney, MTV S, VHUno,
Telemundo Internacional, CineLatino, Rio de la Plata and eight channels of DMX
 Latino-formatted digital audio.
