IT Outsourcing Company Integratechs Helps Companies Avoid New Penalties For PCI-DSS And HIPAA Violations

Integratechs Prepares Businesses for Ramped-Up PCI-DSS & HIPAA Act

Mar 04, 2013, 11:33 ET from Integratechs

AMERICAN FORK, Utah, March 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Utah-based IT outsourcing company Integratechs added PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Digital Security Standard) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance to its list of IT services on February 1, 2013. With recent changes to these standards and increased enforcement trickling down to solo practitioners and small businesses, Integratechs has chosen to offer PCI-DSS and HIPAA compliance as a stand-alone service or as part of a larger IT outsourcing package.

Integratechs, the first company in Utah to offer a full suite of PCI-DSS and HIPAA compliance services, has already begun providing these services to businesses, gaining three new PCI-DSS clients in February. "This will provide an exceptionally-higher level of service to existing customers as well as open additional revenue streams to coincide with future growth," said Blayne Baker, VP of Sales at Integratechs.

The HIPAA Act has been in place since 1996. It was originally designed to protect confidential patient information, among other reasons. PCI-DSS, first established in 2004, was designed to protect customer data stored on credit cards. It calls upon businesses to verify that their machines and software have sufficient protection against fraud. In 2013, however, sweeping changes to PCI-DSS and HIPAA created much stiffer penalties for violators ($1.5 million per HIPAA violation and up to $500,000 per PCI-DSS violation).

"Historically, HIPAA compliance (unlike PCI-DSS) has had a rather broad definition," commented Thomas McCrory, Information Systems Analyst with Integratechs. "More recently, we're beginning to see specific organizational requirements.  With strict enforcement and stiff penalties for non-compliance, businesses have really been put on notice to ensure that patient data is being protected.  It's an exciting time to be a part of that shift toward really defining how we go about maintaining that privacy."
