Jabber, Inc. Introduces the WebClient, Extending IM to Web Browser and Portals

Nov 26, 2001, 00:00 ET from Jabber, Inc.

DENVER, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Jabber, Inc., a leading developer of
software for extensible instant messaging (IM), today announced the Jabber
WebClient, a new instant messaging client designed to extend IM capabilities
to standard web browsers. Enterprises and internet portals desiring to bring
text chat and conferencing features to their audience without requiring them
to install client side software are adopting the WebClient.
Instant messaging, widely popular among the consumer audience, is being
increasingly embraced by businesses as a necessary component of their
communications infrastructure, supporting both internal and external
connections and collaboration. Jabber WebClient serves both markets:
enterprises needing a firewall-friendly connection with no installed client,
and internet portal sites that wish to attract site visitors with chat and
 conference features.
"The Jabber WebClient can be fully branded with company logos and
identities, allowing service providers to integrate it into existing web
portals and provide value-added services to their customers. The WebClient
supports a broad range of IM features which are easily delivered through the
web," says Paul Hemming, Product Manager of Jabber, Inc. "For example, this
product appeals to financial services and consumer products companies who are
actively looking to embed the client into custom applications they are
 developing to support their customers."
WebClient V1.0 software is installed alongside the Jabber Communications
Platform server, extending the reach of the Jabber server to HTTP web
browsers. It complements the installed client software products already
available from Jabber, Inc. and contributors to the Jabber Open Source
 Project.
Jabber WebClient V1.0 will be available for customer installations in
December. It is currently available for demonstration at www.jabber.com .
