Jabber, Inc. Recaps a Highly Successful Inaugural Conference Combining Jabber Partners, Commercial Developers and Open Source Community

Sep 05, 2001, 01:00 ET from Jabber, Inc.

DENVER, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Jabber, Inc., the premiere developer of
open software for real-time communications and instant messaging (IM)
applications and an independent operating subsidiary of Webb Interactive
Services (Nasdaq: WEBB), provided a recap of the Jabbercon 2001 conference,
held in Keystone, Colorado on August 20-21st. The commercial momentum and
substance of Jabber was evidenced, as more than 60 companies converged at
Jabbercon. Some 150 individuals attended, representing industry heavyweights
such as IBM, Intel, Bell South, Walt Disney Internet Group, Orange and France
Telecom, alongside leading open source and commercial developers such as
VitalContact, Nuance, Aether Systems, and Jabcast. Attendees came from as far
away as Singapore, Spain and Switzerland to attend Jabbercon, the first
gathering of businesses and developers who are actively leveraging Jabber
 technology.
"The excitement and momentum of Jabber was readily apparent in Keystone
last week." Commented Rob Balgley, CEO of Jabber, Inc. "It was very
rewarding to see such a clear demonstration of confidence among large industry
players, and to see the level of innovation and enthusiasm of a thriving
community of commercial and open source developers."
The most striking results of the conference were in two areas. One,
Jabber was actively demonstrated in use for a broad range of business,
consumer and mobile applications, tangibly demonstrating its adoption as a
platform for a rapidly growing industry of strategic real-time communications
applications. Two, the networking between businesses and among developers
proved truly groundbreaking. Notably, a group of industry-leading vendors
converged and committed to co-participate in an active program of standards
work, to ensure that Jabber receives strong commercial support for its
position in international standards activities. On another front, important
technical collaboration was demonstrated as leaders of highly strategic
components of internet infrastructure (such as XML-RPC) actively designed and
created prototypes that integrated with Jabber software.
Attendee enthusiasm was high, rating the value of the content and the
interaction to be outstanding. Practically all attendees came away with a
clear message of momentum, innovation and a confidence that Jabbercon would be
several times this size next year.
