Jabber, Inc. Unveils Free 100 User Instant Messaging Server; IM for Small Business and Software Developers

Oct 09, 2001, 01:00 ET from Jabber, Inc.

DENVER, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Jabber, Inc., a leading developer of
software for extensible instant messaging (IM) applications, and an operating
subsidiary of Webb Interactive Services (Nasdaq: WEBB), today announced a
program under which a limited user version of its flagship product, the
Jabber(TM) Communications Platform (JCP), will be available for free download
 from the Jabber website.
Under the new program, called Jabber Everywhere, Jabber, Inc. provides
software developers and enterprises a no-cost version called JCP Express.
It allows up to 100 registered users, full text messaging and group
conference features, and XML routing for real-time communications between
applications. Its server-to-server architecture enables communications to
seamlessly interoperate with the worldwide network of Jabber servers and the
more than 30 different versions of Jabber clients publicly available.
Code from the Jabber Open Source project is widely distributed, but this
is the first time an executable version of the commercial product has been
made available at no cost. "This is not Open Source software, but rather the
same code implemented by Jabber for our largest corporate and service
provider customers," said Don Bergal, VP of Marketing for Jabber. "Our
objective is to enable development on our commercial server and to make
Jabber accessible to organizations typically too small to license our
 product."

JCP Express will be of interest to:
-- Software developers creating commercial applications built on the
        Jabber protocol
-- Small organizations needing their own private IM system for 100 users
        or less
-- Larger organizations interested in evaluating Jabber commercial
        products

The server may be downloaded at
 http://www.jabber.com/everywhere/index.shtml. Requirements include
 RedHat(TM) Linux 7.1 and Intel Pentium(TM) 500 MHz / 250 Mb or equivalent. An
optional support plan is also available. Contact info@jabber.com for more
 information.
