Jabber.com Releases New Secure, Enterprise Quality Jabber Instant Messenger v1.7

New Release Responds to Growing Demand by Enterprises for an Instant

Messaging Solution Which Meets Their Requirements for Security,

Administration and Ease-of-Use

DENVER, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Jabber.com, Inc., provider of commercial
enterprise Instant Messaging solutions and a subsidiary of Webb Interactive
Services, Inc. (Nasdaq: WEBB), today announced the release of Jabber Instant
Messenger v1.7, which has been upgraded to include several new features
specifically required by enterprises looking to deploy instant messaging
 solutions behind their firewalls.
Instant messaging, historically viewed as a consumer activity, is being
increasingly adopted by enterprises as a new component of communications
infrastructure, supporting real-time connectivity, collaboration and
conferencing services. In response to the increasing demands by enterprises
for a secure, interoperable and open standards instant messaging, Jabber.com
today released a new version of its popular Instant Messenger client v1.7,
which is fully compatible with both open and commercial Jabber servers.
Many verticals, such as the financial sector, are demanding greater
control of their internal instant messaging communications because of their
need for security and in some cases, to remain compliant with government
regulation that requires that certain communications be recorded. In response
to these needs, along with recent industry concern related to the general
security of instant messaging and especially pertaining to the security of
locally recorded conversations (commonly known as 'message logs'), the new
Jabber Instant Messenger (JIM) client now supports automatic encryption of all
locally stored message logs and passwords. JIM v1.7 now also supports secured
 communications via SSL.
"With this release, Jabber.com shows it is committed to ensuring the
security of instant messaging, both in terms of the confidentiality of client-
to-server message transmission and client-side message logs," says James
Kobielus, analyst with The Burton Group. "Message confidentiality is of
critical concern for business users who wish to use instant messaging for
sensitive corporate communications. This level of messaging security is a
 baseline requirement for enterprise-grade IM."
Other enhancements, specifically designed for the enterprise user and
behind-the-firewall instances of Jabber Instant Messaging, include local user
directory searching, auto-logon, a new streamlined user interface, shared
groups and support for both server and peer-to-peer file transfers. JIM v1.7
for Windows can be downloaded and freely distributed from www.jabber.com.
Paul Hemming, Product Manager for Jabber.com, Inc. said, "This is the most
significant release of our Windows Jabber client to date. Nearly all of the
basic enterprise requirements for security and functionality in an instant
messaging client for Windows are now available. The new release includes some
enhanced capabilities when used in conjunction with our Jabber Commercial
Server v2.0, but all basic instant messaging functionality is supported when
used in connection with the free Jabber servers available from the Jabber open
source project located at http://www.jabber.org. With the first release of
our Commercial Server now complete, we are aggressively pursuing a client
application strategy which will meet the existing and future demands of our
 customers."
