Kana Announces Preliminary First Quarter Results

    REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 3 /PRNewswire/ --
 Kana Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:   KANA), a leading provider of enterprise
 relationship management solutions, today announced preliminary financial
 results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2001. Based on preliminary
 information, revenues for the quarter will be in the range of $24 million to
 $25 million, and net loss for the quarter could be as much as (0.43)
 per share, excluding the amortization of intangible assets, stock-based
 compensation and goodwill impairment as well as extraordinary charges related
 to the mid-quarter cost-cutting and headcount reduction measures. In the
 first quarter of 2000, the company reported $20.8 million in revenues and net
 loss of $0.19 per share.

     "The ongoing slowdown in capital spending as well as economic uncertainty
 has impacted our ability to close sales during the quarter," said Jay Wood,
