ITV, Enterprise and Network Service Provider (NSP) Solutions Announced as

Company's Target Markets

Apr 24, 2001, 01:00 ET from Kasenna, Inc.

LAS VEGAS, NAB, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- Kasenna,
Inc., today unveiled company plans to target the burgeoning interactive
television (iTV) market as the third leg of its primary market strategy,
adding to initiatives previously announced in the enterprise and NSP markets.
The announcement communicates Kasenna's plan to support solution providers,
application developers and service providers eager for a video delivery
platform to complete iTV solutions not based on proprietary hardware or closed
standards. Kasenna and its partners will be demonstrating enterprise, NSP and
iTV solutions built on the Kasenna(TM) MediaBase platform in the Kasenna booth
(Sands #S4812) at the NAB tradeshow.
Kasenna recently announced the Kasenna Developer Program and work is
underway with a variety of solution providers who are developing and
integrating solutions throughout the iTV value chain. These include
middleware and digital rights management application developers and computer
hardware companies, content syndicators, and set-top box manufacturers. Among
those Kasenna is currently working with to integrate MediaBase into iTV
solutions are EnReach, iMagicTV, Innovatia, Kreatel, Mindport, Minerva, NDS,
Netsea, Orca, Pace, SGI, Spark Interactive, Stellarone, and Sun Microsystems.
"Here at Kasenna we have the engineers and more importantly, the
technology that was used in the Orlando/Time Warner trials back in 1993 and
1994, the very first demonstration of iTV," said Mark Gray, chairman and CEO
of Kasenna. "Those trials were considered a technological success but an
economical failure due to the last mile costs. With broadband to the home now
readily available, the door is wide open for iTV to finally become a reality,
and I believe Kasenna MediaBase and its proven technology platform will be a
part of the winning solutions in the industry."
"Television consumers in both Europe and North America are demanding and
subscribing to new broadband services such as video-on demand and interactive
television," said Bill Correll, group manager, Multichannel Distribution
Market Development at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "The combination of Kasenna
MediaBase with Sun(TM) server and storage platforms is emerging as the
platform of choice for network operators who are looking to deploy iTV
services for their customers because it is one of the most highly scalable and
 cost effective solutions available today."
"The iTV revolution was pioneered by SGI and MediaBase in Orlando. The
next generation content management and distribution technology from Kasenna
along with our scalable VOD platform make for a highly compelling iTV
solution. SGI's open standards based platform offers our customers choice in
technology, partners and deployment -- which is vital to the success of iTV
worldwide," said Greg Estes, Vice President and General Manager,
 Telecommunications and Media, SGI.
Through industry partners, Kasenna is showing at NAB how MediaBase
integrates with applications and hardware throughout the enterprise, NSP and
iTV value chains to manage and deliver video streams regardless of format,
bitrate or server preference. In addition to solutions demonstrated in the
Kasenna booth, partners such as Sun, SGI and a number of others will be
demonstrating Kasenna MediaBase solutions on their respective platforms in
 their booths at the tradeshow.
The robustness and versatility of the MediaBase platform are key reasons
many solution providers cite for turning to Kasenna when integrating streaming
video technology. In addition to its availability on the Irix, Linux and
Solaris(TM) Operating Environment platforms, Kasenna MediaBase supports the
industry standard MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 formats in proven applications at bit
rates up to 8 Mb/s. Underscoring the technology's value is the Kasenna's
Developer Program, which supports the integration of a number of middleware,
billing and digital rights management applications with Kasenna MediaBase.
