Kasenna MediaBase on the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment Delivers iTV Video Streams at Lowest Price Per Stream in the Industry

Kasenna Leads Industry Providing High Quality, High Bit Rate Video for Under

$125 Per Stream

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Kasenna, Inc.

LAS VEGAS, (NAB Tradeshow) April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Kasenna, Inc.,
announced today that its video delivery platform Kasenna(TM) MediaBase,
deployed over Sun(TM) servers running the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment,
delivers the high quality, high bit rate streams necessary for the iTV
marketplace for less than $125 per stream. By providing a cost effective
video delivery platform that is not based on proprietary hardware or closed
standards, Kasenna is quickly establishing itself as the preferred streaming
 solution for iTV providers.
"At NAB we've heard from a lot of people in the iTV space who are seeking
a more cost-effective way to stream high quality, high bit rate video over
their networks," said Mark Gray, chairman and CEO of Kasenna. "While each of
the operating systems we support have advantages in various markets, for iTV
needs, there is no lower cost per stream implementation available today than
that delivered by Kasenna MediaBase over the Solaris Operating Environment."
Kasenna is demonstrating its IP video delivery platform at the NAB
tradeshow in Las Vegas through April 26, 2001. In concert with partners such
as Kreatel, iMagic, Innovatia and Spark Interactive, the company is showing
differing iTV solutions integrated with Kasenna MediaBase in their booth
#S-4812 and in Sun's booth #I-7215 on the main floor of the Sands Expo Center.
"Spark Interactive in the past has utilized the OVS system, but frankly we
feel that in today's market, Kasenna MediaBase provides the most stable,
innovative and economical stream in the market. Switching to Kasenna
MediaBase was a sound business decision," said William Dever, president of
Spark Interactive. Spark Interactive's iTV service has been commercially
deployed in parts of Washington State since January 2001.
"Kasenna MediaBase over Solaris Operating Environment can deliver systems
that can actually take you from pilot deployments to commercial deployments
serving very large user communities of independent MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams
concurrently," said Satish Menon, Ph.D., chief technology officer of Kasenna.
"Most claims in the industry are based on a combination of independent and
cached streams where ours are based solely on streams of individual files.
When you add in the other capabilities of MediaBase such as content
distribution and management, the value to our customers increases
 exponentially."
"Multichannel distribution is driving business opportunities in new
markets like iTV," said Rob Hall, vice president, Markets and Industries,
GSO at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Key to the widespread adoption of interactive
technology will be delivering a cost-effective, standards-based solution like
Kasenna MediaBase, which offers optimal price-performance on the Sun
 platform."
