Kathleen Gnall Named Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Deputy Secretary

    HARRISBURG, Pa., April 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kathleen Gnall, a
 12- year employee of the Department of Corrections, has been appointed as
 the agency's deputy secretary for reentry and specialized programs.
     Gnall will oversee inmate assessment and treatment programs, inmate
 education and vocational training, the community corrections system, victim
 services and the planning, research, evaluation and grants program.
     "Kathleen Gnall has shown her commitment to the profession with her
 extensive knowledge and participation in numerous initiatives that have
 improved the department's evidence-based policies and programs," said
 Corrections Secretary Jeffrey A. Beard, Ph.D. "Her experience and expertise
 will continue to be assets as she oversees programs designed to prepare
 inmates for their eventual release and reintegration into society."
     Gnall, who graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in
 politics from De Sales University and a master of arts in government from
 Lehigh University, began her corrections career in 1995 as the executive
 assistant to the Secretary of Corrections. This was followed by her
 appointment in 1998 as director of the DOC's office of planning, research,
 statistics and grants; policy director in 2005 and acting director of
 programs and reentry in 2006.
     In 1994 she was selected to participate in an intensive, one-year
 postgraduate internship program for recent upper-level college graduates.
 This program provided participants with broad exposure to the development,
 implementation and evaluation of public policy while completing rotational
 assignments at various state agencies, including corrections, education,
 environmental protection, labor & industry, public welfare and the
 Governor's Office of Administration.
     She has authored and co-authored several articles on Pennsylvania's
 approach to prisoner reintegration.
     Gnall has completed the Pennsylvania Management Associate Program and
 the Leadership Development Institute for Women in State Government. She is
 a member of the American Correctional Association; the Pennsylvania
 Association of Probation, Parole and Corrections and the Justice Research
 and Statistics Association.
     Gnall lives in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, with her husband and
 two children.
