Kerr-McGee Receives National Safety Award for Excellence

    OKLAHOMA CITY, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Kerr-McGee Corp. (NYSE:   KMG)
 received the nation's top safety and environmental award for major offshore
 oil and gas operations for the third time in the past five years.  The
 National Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) was presented during the U.S.
 Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) industry awards
 luncheon in Houston on April 4.
     Kerr-McGee was presented the 2000 SAFE Award for outstanding performance
 in its Gulf of Mexico operations.  The SAFE Award is presented annually by MMS
 to recognize outer continental shelf oil and natural gas operators who have
 demonstrated superior performance.
     In its news release, MMS said, "This award signifies a corporate
 commitment to offshore safety and environmental protection.  The SAFE Award
 was established by MMS in 1983 to recognize and honor companies that make a
 concerted effort to train and motivate their employees to conduct offshore
 operations in a safe and environmentally responsible manner."
