Apr 19, 2001, 01:00 ET from KLA-Tencor Corp.

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- KLA-Tencor Corp. (Nasdaq: KLAC)
today announced it has promoted Paul Boudre to president of its European
operations. As president of KLA-Tencor Europe, Boudre will be responsible for
providing overall management of the company's business in the region, which
includes 12 offices covering more than 15 countries. Boudre succeeds Russ
Weiss, who has returned to KLA-Tencor's corporate headquarters to support the
company's U.S. business as vice president of U.S. field operations.
"Europe is an important part of our business, especially with the
explosive growth potential of the telecommunications sector," stated
Gary Dickerson, chief operating officer of KLA-Tencor. "Not only are some of
the top chip manufacturers based in Europe, but much of the research and
development of new processes and technologies, such as sub-wavelength
lithography and 300 mm manufacturing, is pioneered here. Paul's appointment
to president of our European operations will be critical in strengthening our
ability to deliver value to our customers in this key region."
As president of KLA-Tencor Europe, Boudre will oversee all European
operations, including sales, service, logistics, technical support, finance
and human resources. He also will manage KLA-Tencor's European Response
Center (ERC), based in Workingham, U.K., which is responsible for coordinating
all field service and support activities in the region. Boudre reports
directly to Stan Yarbro, vice president of worldwide field operations.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead our efforts in Europe,"
stated Boudre. "Today, our customers-including leading edge copper
development fabs, 300 mm pilot lines and those engaged in advanced design rule
R&D-look to us for more than just our state-of-the-art inspection and
metrology tools. We are also actively engaged in providing them with the
expertise and support required to help them achieve their yield targets and
profitability goals. As our customers move aggressively forward into
high-volume 300 mm and copper production, we will continue our commitment to
 being partners in their success."
Boudre has more than 15 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.
Most recently, he served for three years as general manager of the KLA-Tencor
business unit responsible for providing customer sales and service to
STMicroelectronics and Philips Semiconductor. During his tenure as general
manager, Boudre increased both the size of this business unit and its sales by
 more than six-fold.
Before joining KLA-Tencor, Boudre spent more than two years as director of
operations at Atmel's fab in Rousset, France. Other positions he held
throughout his career include operations manager and fab manager of Motorola's
Fab 6 in Toulouse, France; engineering manager and project manager for
technology transfer at STMicroelectronics' fabs in Rousset, France and
Carrollton, Texas, respectively; and process engineer at IBM's fab in
Essonnes, France. Boudre earned a degree in chemical engineering from the
National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, France.
About KLA-Tencor: KLA-Tencor is the world leader in yield management and
