Lake Hills Golf Club Begins Offering UpLink's GPS System to Its Customers

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from UpLink Corporation

AUSTIN, Texas, and BILLINGS, Mont., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Lake Hills
Golf Club, which features one of Montana's premier public golf courses, has
 installed UpLink Corporation's (www.uplinkgolf.com) GPS-based Distance
Measurement, Course Management and Communications System.
"We're excited that Lake Hills has recognized the value of UpLink's GPS
technology and what it can mean for the facility's overall operations as well
as its customers," said Jeff Connally, COO of UpLink. "Lake Hill's selection
of UpLink solidifies the company's position as a leading GPS provider to golf
 courses."
The installation of UpLink's Traditional System also seems to have further
enhanced the reputation of the course, which plays to 6,119 yards and was
built in 1957. Owner Rainer Dahl said the benefits of UpLink's technology
will be felt from the clubhouse to Bluegrass fairways.
"Obviously, one of the main benefits to our golfers is that because
they'll know the distance from their ball to the hole they'll be able to
select the right club and hopefully hit better shots," said Dahl. "But it
doesn't end there. They'll also be able to order food and beverages from the
cart. That order will be waiting for them at the turn or after they complete
the round. This 2-way communication between the cart and the clubhouse
creates a number of other benefits, as well."
One of the applications Dahl alluded to is the ability to offer a real-
time leader board on each cart's screen during a tournament. Lake Hills will
utilize this fully integrated Tournament Management System April 27 at the
Cosgriff Memorial Tournament, a charity golf event for the benefit of the
Alberta Bair Theater, at the club.
Dahl said he came across UpLink, while attending the PGA Merchandise Show
in Las Vegas last fall. "We had been looking at installing a GPS system for
some time," he said. "But we weren't happy with what the other companies were
offering. In UpLink, we found a company that delivers a reliable and
 versatile solution."
Early indications seem to support Dahl's assessment as evidenced by local
golfer Jim Cayko's comment to the Billings Gazette: "It makes the cart a
better value. I think it will be real nice in the summertime when you get to
order up your drinks or whatever you want."
