Law Enforcement and Private Security (Leaps) Conference to Showcase Technology as Key Crime Fighting Tool

ADT Security Services to feature high-tech security solutions at second annual

LEAPS

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Tyco International Ltd.

LOS ANGELES, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- ADT Security Services, Inc., a part
of Tyco Fire and Security Services, announced that it has joined other
electronic security companies, business leaders from a variety of industries
and the Los Angeles Police Department to participate in the Law Enforcement
and Private Security Conference (LEAPS) 2001. During the conference, ADT will
provide real-life demonstrations of the capabilities offered by remote digital
video surveillance and remote video networks that use closed-circuit
 television cameras.
The LEAPS 2001 Conference, in its second year, provides a forum to raise
awareness about advances in technology that can be applied to enhance law
enforcement efforts. This conference is attracting law enforcement officials
from cities around the country and is an outgrowth of alliances formed between
local police departments and private security companies to share ideas and
information and to work cooperatively toward the common goal of preventing
 crime.
The conference will also feature presentations from experts in the areas
of workplace violence, identity theft and organized crime in retail. The
LEAPS 2001 program will include an interview with an alleged cargo thief who
is currently in police custody. He will be interrogated by an LAPD detective
and a Supervising Agent for the FBI from behind a protective screen to conceal
his identity. Conference attendees will not see his face, but they will hear
his dramatic insider's point of view about security measures that are
effective against crime and those that are not. He will offer his opinion
about the deterrent effect of such security devices as closed circuit
 television cameras.
Several cutting-edge security technologies will be demonstrated during
LEAPS 2001 including ADT's SecurVision(R), which offers digital video
recording and storage similar to a VCR for up to 30 days in the hard drive of
a computer. It is a powerful surveillance device that can differentiate a
human intruder from other motion stimuli, such as animals, changes in lighting
conditions or even changes in the weather.
SecurVision helps provide around-the-clock, accurate monitoring, that enhances
the efforts of security personnel or law enforcement, according to ADT West
Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, Curt Hilliard.
"The benefits of capturing and accessing the real-time images of a crime
as it is happening are obvious from a law enforcement standpoint. From a
business management point of view, CCTV and SecurVision in particular can
offer added value in the area of liability control, merchandising, operational
audits, training, employee job performance, and alarm verification." Hilliard
 said.
In addition to ADT, other companies will also demonstrate the
effectiveness of various new electronic security technologies during the LEAPS
2001 Conference. Many of the conference seminars are co-presented by law
enforcement officers and representatives from the private security industry.
The LEAPS 2001 Conference will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at the
Westin Bonaventure Hotel, 404 S. Figueroa Street in Los Angeles, CA from 8:00
am until 5:00 pm. Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks is scheduled to
deliver opening remarks for LEAPS 2001.
