    MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Legato Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: LGTO), a worldwide leader in enterprise storage
management software, today announced the release of Legato NetWorker(R)
Modules for IBM's database software running on the Linux operating system.
With today's announcement, Legato NetWorker is the only enterprise-level
solution that supports all of IBM's business-critical database applications
 for Linux.
"Legato continues to demonstrate leadership qualities in the Linux market
space by consistently developing solutions with the direction of market
leaders such as IBM," said Dr. Bill Claybrook, research director, Linux and
Unix, Aberdeen Group. "Today's announcement is proof of Legato's enthusiasm
and drive to be what their partners' and their partners' customers need them
to be. If today's announcement is an example of what's ahead for this
partnership this year, Legato is clearly redefining what it means to be a
partner-focused leader in the storage industry."
"The combination of Legato NetWorker and IBM database software running on
Linux delivers the data protection and application availability that customers
require," said Lauren Flaherty, vice president of marketing, IBM Data
Management Solutions. "Our relationship with Legato is consistent with IBM's
commitment to provide customers with a powerful e-infrastructure for the Linux
 platform."
The NetWorker Modules are available for IBM DB2 and Informix database
products and integrate with each database, enabling online backup and restore
of IBM databases with maximum reliability. Should data be lost, databases,
tablespaces, objects or transaction log files can be recovered individually,
speeding recovery and minimizing costly downtime.
These modules, in tandem with Legato NetWorker, provide customers with a
complete software solution designed to protect their IBM database systems.
Automated database protection is achieved using NetWorker's backup scheduling,
autochanger support, tape cloning and advanced media handling including
 library and dynamic drive sharing.
Providing backup server, storage node and client support for Linux,
NetWorker uses parallelism and interleaving to protect data fast and allows
administrators to perform backups locally or "over-the-wire" to a central tape
library. These combined features reduce overhead and total cost of ownership
by simplifying, centralizing and automating the management of IBM DB2 and
 Informix backup and recovery operations.
