Lexar Media Enters Patent Infringement Litigation With Memorex

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Lexar Media, Inc.

FREMONT, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Lexar Media (Nasdaq: LEXR), a
leading designer, developer and marketer of award-winning digital film and
connectivity products for the digital photography market, announced today that
it is now engaged in litigation with Memorex (Memtek Products, Inc.) over
Memorex's infringement of Lexar Media's flash memory controller patents.
"It is with regret that we take this course of action, but Memorex has
retreated from its commitments to sell non-infringing CompactFlash(TM)
products," said Eric Whitaker, Lexar Media's Vice President of Technology
Licensing. "Lexar Media is committed to aggressively protecting its
investments in patent and technology development against those who use our
inventions. While a number of companies have recently agreed to purchase our
controllers to produce CompactFlash cards, there unfortunately remain a number
of new entrants in the flash market that do not respect the work that
Lexar Media has put into developing these technologies -- despite the fact
that companies such as Sony and SanDisk have licensed our patents." Lexar
Media added that it believes that customers who buy Memorex's CompactFlash
products or who build devices with flash memory controllers from unlicensed
vendors such as Pretec or C-One that use Lexar Media's patented technology may
 also be infringing these patents.
Lexar Media intends to seek an injunction against Memorex's further sales
 of infringing products and damages.
Lexar Media, a pioneering technology company in the flash memory
controller market, holds more than 30 patents related to developing and
designing a programmable flash memory controller and flash memory cards.
Memorex is one of several companies Lexar Media is suing for intellectual
 property infringement.
