Lineo Previews Upgrade to Flagship Japanese Embedix SDK Product

Lineo Adds Hitachi SuperH(R) RISC Processor Support, Reduces Time to Market

For Embedded Device Manufacturers in Japan

Nov 14, 2000, 00:00 ET from Lineo, Inc.

    LAS VEGAS, COMDEX Fall 2000, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Lineo(TM), Inc., a
leading innovator in embedded Linux systems, real-time and high availability
solutions, today announced the preview of Embedix(TM) SDK 1.2-J being shown at
COMDEX Fall 2000, the next release of the Japanese software development kit
for embedded developers and device manufacturers. Embedix SDK 1.2-J
integrates support with cross-compilations, full support for Hitachi
SuperH(R) 3 and 4 RISC processors and an integrated development environment to
provide developers with greater flexibility and reduced time-to-market.
"This is an important step forward for the development of embedded Linux
devices in Japan," said Yoshinobu Ushiyama, CEO of Lineo Japan, Inc. "Japan
is one of the world's epicenters for the development and early adoption of
embedded devices. Developers and engineers in Japan will appreciate the tools
and features in Embedix SDK 1.2J to more quickly deliver devices to market, at
a lower cost, with the smallest embedded software image possible based on
 Lineo Embedix."
The Embedix SDK previously supported the X86 and PowerPC processor
families. Today, Lineo is expanding the processor support with Embedix SDK
1.2-J to also support Hitachi SuperH 3 and 4 processors. Embedix SDK 1.2-J
provides true cross-compilation which will allow for target images on the
Embedix platform to be built and deployed across various processor families.
Embedix SDK 1.2-J will also include the NetFront browser from ACCESS Co.
Ltd., a powerful embedded Internet browser for consumer information
appliances. In addition, PowerParts middleware from Metrowerks is included to
provide developers with graphical user interface development capabilities.
Device manufacturers will benefit from the inclusion of these because of
reduced porting work required by OEM customers and will accelerate their
 product development cycle.
Metrowerks CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE) provides
an important set of tools in the development of today's applications for
embedded devices. CodeWarrior combines an editor, compiler, linker and
debugger into one integrated application which helps developers bring
applications to market faster and at a reduced cost.
One of the key strengths of Embedix SDK is the inclusion of the Target
Wizard(TM) library compilation tool, an automated way to quickly and easily
select all of the requirements for a target image and check for all software
interdependencies. Target Wizard also helps developers quickly create the
smallest possible software image for their embedded device by stripping out
unneeded features and software code. By providing developers with the
smallest possible software image, Embedix helps developers to create devices
that require less hardware and allows them to gain greater economies of scale
when producing large numbers of devices.

     Pricing and Availability
Embedix SDK 1.2-J will begin shipping in mid-December through Lineo
Japan's Premier Channel Partners. Pricing will be announced at that time.
