SecureEdge NAS and SecureEdge Firewall Provide OEMs

With Added Support for Linux-based Devices

Apr 10, 2001, 01:00 ET from Lineo, Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO, Embedded Systems Conference, April 10 /PRNewswire/ --
Lineo,(TM) Inc., a leading innovator in embedded systems, real-time and high
availability solutions today announced the release of SecureEdge(TM) Network
Attached Storage (NAS) platform designed to provide OEMs with storage
solutions for secure Internet appliances and SecureEdge Firewall, a low-cost
network access platform that provides a router, firewall and secure PPTP and
IPSec VPN capabilities in a single compact enclosure. Both appliance
platforms are new additions to the Lineo SecureEdge family -- the OEM
development platform for Linux-based appliances and devices.
"The release of SecureEdge NAS and SecureEdge Firewall allows Lineo to
provide a full range of appliances to OEM partners for home, small business
and corporate networks with additional secure storage and firewall features
for half the cost of a PC," said Bob Waldie, senior vice president of product
and services engineering, Lineo, Inc. "Both SecureEdge NAS and SecureEdge
Firewall are robust, deployable solutions that build upon the current
functionality of the SecureEdge family and offer a wide array of vertical
 applications."

     SecureEdge NAS
The Lineo SecureEdge NAS platform provides an ideal OEM solution for
secure Internet appliances requiring local disk storage. The unit may be used
in a diverse range of home, business and content-oriented applications such as
audio players, anti-virus and anti-spam filters, license-management and
software distribution as well as industrial and commercial scenarios. The
storage capability of SecureEdge NAS allows customers to create uniquely
targeted applications that involve content inspection and content control.
"With SecureEdge NAS, a customer is now able to secure their applications
in custom hardware to focus on delivering their services with the confidence
that the unit also gives them a hardened firewall, VPN access for updates and
uploads, and failsafe operation that is necessary in any appliance," Waldie
 said.

     SecureEdge Firewall
SecureEdge Firewall combines the powerful features of Motorola ColdFire
MCF5272 processor and uClinux to create a network access device with router,
firewall and secure PPTP and IPSec VPN capabilities. The appliance can be
fitted with a wide range of enclosure and firmware options as well as a
powerful development environment. Standard interfaces include a 10Base-T WAN
port for connection to a cable modem, DSL modem or other broadband service and
a 10/100 Ethernet LAN port or 4-port 10/100 hub. A serial port is also
available for dial-up or to provide modem backup for the broadband connection.
The platform has inherent VPN capabilities for secure access or dial-in
 functionality.

     Availability
SecureEdge Firewall and SecureEdge NAS are now available as part of the
SecureEdge product line. All products in the SecureEdge family are field
upgradeable through a LAN or the Internet. Lineo also provides a complete
range of custom design services to fit customers' individual needs. For
